B-wings or H-6s?

So the knock on B-wings has been their slow speed. Now Rebels have a three-speed generic bomber with the same anti-ship battery (blue/black) and bomber key word. Two more points buys one additional speed/hull and the Grit keyword, at the cost of one anti-squadron dice and the Heavy keyword.

Setting aside the issue of buy-in cost (since you have to buy multiple Rogues and Villains packs to get these), for all you B-wing afficianados, is this enough to make you consider switching? And for all you B-wing skeptics, is this enough to make you interested?

No. It has Heavy.

If that weren't a deal Breaker, I'd be using Y-Wings instead. But it is.

It's also worth noting that Grit, while preventing lone interceptors from locking the H-6 down mid run, does not prevent any given squadron from engaging the H-6 and making it so it can't fire on a ship.

Once that happens it either needs a squadron command to jump someplace it's not engaged and fire, or it's just plinking at the engaging squadron with a weak 2 blue, meaning he'll need a minimum of two shots to drop even an 8 point TIE fighter, and that's with good rolls.

B-Wings bring more anti-squadron dice to the table to deal with close-in fighter screens.

The H-6 seems to be more like a TIE bomber in that it needs a mostly defenseless ship to hammer, and an escort to get him there.

Heavy and the 2 anti-squadron armament would keep me using B-Wings even were monetary cost not an issue. I can't tell you how many times I've had TIE bombers and Y-Wings tied up with B-Wings, allowing me to engage capital ships but stopping them from doing so. I've learned to compensate for the B-Wing's speed. They're a full blown gunship, which makes them dangerous regardless of what they're fighting. As soon as you realize they're just as valuable in a dogfight as against a ship they really come into their own. Give me Jan and I've got everything I need to make massed B-Wings awesome.

No, really. Adding an H6 extends threat range and adds a bomber that can move out of light engagement and fire on a ship. They aren't mutually exclusive and there is no reason to take only one type, in fact I'm quite likely to run a combination of YY BB H6.

'Heavy' is only really a major impediment when all your squadrons have it.

I prefer to compare it to the Y-wing than the B-wing. While the speed 3 is nice, I would miss the extra blue anti-squadron die. The B isn't a heavy so it can engage as well. The B makes a better all-rounder than this, so I imagine keeping it as the Yavaris escort. That's not to say the H-6 won't have its place, but it's the most dedicated bomber the rebels have more in line with the TIE bomber than the B-wing.

Or, perhaps more accurately, when you don't also have Grit.

The combination makes the H-6 a benign influence on engagement for the most part, which is interesting.

I think you're spot on with the Scurrg being more of a specialty bomber to mix in with your fighters rather than a replacement for current Rebel heavy hitters.

I like being able to have my B-Wings run Double Duty... And nothing in that pack will let me do that, so I'll probably continue to run my XB group in tandem as I have thusfar.

I'm not ditching my B-wings for H6's for all of the above reasons, as well as the added cost of the H6 over the B.

I don't mind that it is heavy. I plan on running them with Jan's anyway

I've noticed people aren't talking about Intel as much as Grit and Rogue, but for this very reason I'm thinking of trying some generic Jumpmaster 5000s with my TIE bombers.

Similarly, the HWK is going to have fun implications for the H-6 and Y-Wing.

Took the words out of my mouth once i just committed to learning B's it eventually came together and while their 2 speed is still awful you learn to work with it.

He ain't heavy, he's my bomber.

Sorry.

yeah, I'm probably sticking to Bs

2 points cheaper

more flexible with anti-squadron firepower and no heavy

Yavaris doesn't care about extra speed

(not to mention it's one pack per one Silly Bomber...oh my wallet)

I see SIlly Bombers being the squadron for mon cal frigates trying to get the most damaging activation possible, though

That 2 speed on the MC80 means they'll probably like the B-wings as much as Yavaris. I might finally need to buy another Rebel fighter pack once Home One sails its way into my fleet.

hmm. 2 havoc's for 32 points or 3 y's for 30 points...

why do i want havoc's again?

Nym. I want 1 of these so I can run Nym to scare the turds out of my opponents

I'm going to save Nym/Havoc to be used with Yvaris and Adar Tallon.

Maybe I'll use the H-6 to boost numbers for a Y-wing flight, as I only have one rebel fighter pack but I doubt it will see much use.

Nym, Adar and Independence? (Boosted comms also?)

Sure its a trick, but with grit, brace and six hull, its a good trick, and probably cant be ignored. If you are running some squadrons anyway, he is going to divert a lot of fighter cover!

Nym I'll probably use with Yavaris when I can afford him(it/her?). But that's just to abuse the special, not the state of the base H6.

The base H-6 is pretty good. At 2 points it is not a massive difference tho8gh it is heavy. . . I liked B-Wings because I could use them to engage. . . Hmmmm
