By Corellian Corvette, in Star Wars: Armada

Some of us (myself included) have been burned off of other games in part due to the fact that some companies have unbalanced or endangered their games because they wanted/had to produce more and more and more content. While I think the wait for Wave 2 was too long because the game hasn't really filled out completely yet, I am in no rush for constant new releases. Wave 3 will probably give us more options to really fill out 400 points well. But, I do not under any circumstances want them rushing Wave 3 just so we can have more stuff. I want it when it's good and ready (aka balanced). I'm responding more cautiously because I've been burned, granted, but that's how I feel.

Maybe we have not had any announcement as a good portion of the wave is episode VII stuff? (Can't wait to see what new Rebel/Resistance ships will be revealed/returning)

I can see them doing an Interdictor class Star Destroyer and MC80 Liberty type cruiser, as the Interdictor is one of the more recognizable ships from the EU and MC80 Liberty type cruisers are both canon and popular.

Eventually, Id love an expansion without ships and squadrons, possibly containing:

- Lots of new objectives

- Scenarios, with unique victory conditions

- A campaign

- Other terrain (mostly for scenarios/campaign?): nebula, planatoids, death star, space stations

- Lots of upgrade cards

At some point Id also like a ship expansion containing very different play elements:

- Cargo ships, transport ships, battle stations (used in objectives for normal games, and in scenarios & campaigns)

- Odd manuevering ticks, ie for speed 4: 2/0/0/0, 0/0/1/2, 0/0/2/2, 2/0/0/2

- 2 and 3 hull zones instead of 4: Left/right hemispheres; 3 equal pie wedges

- Ships with low shielding (1/1/1/1), or no shields, but high hull values

- Ships with little weapons but lots of support options (carriers, ECM, ECCM, mine layer?)

Lack of canon will probably prevent much of this from being considered.

Having seen those silly new Ep7 X-wings in the new X-wing starter, I'm resigned to the fact that it will probably get into Armada as well at some point, but I don't have to like it. I'm just hoping they milk the original holy trinity for as long as they can, even if that means the occasional (hopefully) not too silly EU stuff.

I'm just really hoping to get an AFmk1 before we see anything from JJWars myself.

I think campaign packs would be brilliant. A dozen or so linked missions with some special objective cards, new characters or upgrades, a couple of new models (perfect place to release a GR75 model!) etc. And it would be a cheap way to release product (and keep the interest of the player base) without resorting to scraping the filthy bottom of the EU barrel.

I think everyone agrees that campaign material would be nice, and based on the limited campaigns we have for X-wing, ffg probably will release something like that for armada. But probably not until after wave 3.

Hate to break this to you, but outside of a death star or super star destroyer (I'm not here to argue about these, go back to the SSD pit or DS dungeon if you do ;p) we're done with the original trilogy other than EU stuff. This cow is dry.

......WHY!? Why whould you tell them to hold off on annoucing Wave 3 when we wont actually get the models for 7 months anyways....

***WANTS***

- New Objectives (Red, Blue, Yellow)

- More Semi-Unique Squadron Cards (Similar to the mid-level unnamed squads from X-Wing such as the "Royal Red Interceptors")

- New Terrain / Upgadeable Space Base for each faction / Static Defenses

- More Named Variations of exsisting ships (More named cards)

- Additional new abilities similar to the new Tractor Beam (Such as cloaking devices for ships and squads / Fireship Squads / Mine layers )

Unique Royal Red Interceptors - +2pts may set 1 Blue die to a Acc result + Grit.

Cloaking Fighter - X-Wings for instance ...+ 2pts, Decloak when they first attack, cannot be engaged until Decloaked

Cloaked Ships - Cannot shoot, as a Defender may remove 1 die from the Attackers dice pool after they have been rolled.

Fireship Squads - Load up YT-1300s with Boom stick and crash them into enemy ships for set amount of on impact dice damage.

Minelayers - CR90 sized vessals with reduced arms dropping a mine in its movment phase for each attack it does not use.

NO CLOAKING! Its silly, doubly so on small ships.

While I'm not sold on cloaking abilities either, some sort of modification/upgrade card for squadrons could be a cool mechanic. More objectives would be sweet, as well, but I'm certainly not the first to suggest that.

But what about the MC80 Liberty Cruiser and the GR-75 Transport and Lambda Shuttle and Jabba's Sail Barge? I am clearly joking about the last one :P.

But I do think we can expect to see an MC80 Liberty model. I think that it is just too iconic and that they were quite deliberate in naming the first MC80 Cruiser release as the Home One expansion. I wouldn't be surprised if the second release was named the MC80 Liberty type Star Cruiser and the ship cards were called the MC80 Support Cruiser and the other simply the MC80 Star Cruiser. I think the support cruiser would have the same upgrades as the assault cruiser but with the two defensive retrofits replaced with offensive retrofits. The generic star cruiser would have the same upgrade as a command cruiser but would only have a squadron command of 3, anti-squadron armament of 2 blue and would cost the least of the four variants.

So while I don't agree with it, I get that people hate he Prequel Trilogy, bu whats wrong with the ship's from it? I mean it's not as though we're asking for a Jar-Jar commander? (and the topic goes onto a tangent)

I thought people were just trying to say that FFG specifically stated that they are focusing on the civil war and beyond.

It is up to the player base and player mods to give you that experience.

EDIT: they made the same commitment as they did with X-wing, and they continue to pull stuff from obscure sources rather than the ARC-170 or some- um... uhhhhh... ARC 170.

(seriously, what other fighters were there? Torrents were phased out during the war, so none/not enough to be left around for the civil war, V-wings are basically A wings or TIE interceptors. Z95's and Y-wings were designed before 1 2 and 3, so they technically don't count. And droid starfighters would be dumb to add to the setting of that game. Nothing really was in the clone wars, just big ships :/)

Love,

Do your homework, eat your vegetables, and go to bed.

I'm looking forward to the wave 3 announcement, but I'd be perfectly content to wait until after wave 2 is released. That said, I imagine that its contents are more or less finalized at this point, some prototypes have been printed up and the fine tuning has begun by now. I do hope we don't have as long a wait between announcement and release. Or if we do, at least I would love to see the initial estimate be more accurate.

...eat your vegetables....

You monster.

You monster.

VEGETABLES ARE DELICIOUS

The only vegetable I eat is bacon.

You read that correctly.

That's odd, I had heard on another topic that Disney was selling the rights to the prequels' mechandice; and that FFG was considering buying.

Well, given that the kids that watched the prequels are turn 20ish now, it makes sense to start selling them grownup toys...just like us that grew up on the OT.
