my first T70 builds

By Wiredin, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Recently grabbed a pair of FA starter kits due to some store credit. Seems as though these new fighters are pretty interesting... These are my newbie builds:

70A70A:

Tycho - Autothrusters/Wired/Refit

Jake - Autothrusters/Wired/Refit

Blue Squad Novice x2

Highly maneuverable 4 ship list, but the T70's are at a disadvantage due to no spent upgrades and low PS. I would try to keep to the edges and the corners to force enemy ships to turn where I can out maneuver them and pounce on them then run away before they get their bearings. I will probably get torn apart by TLT's though

The Hunters:

Poe - Autothrusters/PTL/BB8

Ibtisam - E2/FCS/C3PO

Knave - R2 Astro

There is probably better money spent here than running the E-Wing for 29 points. Especially with the 1 PS. Meanwhile Ibtisam and Poe should be tough to take down due to the C3PO synergy and Autothrusters/BB8. All ships fire for 3, so damage shouldn't be a problem.

Final Flight:

Ten Numb - Mangler

Etahn - Wired/R7-T1

Red Squad Vet - VI/BB8

My theory is the Etahn/Numb combination could do some real damage together with the Red Vet in the cleanup position. The way the synergy works in my head...and remember I'm incredibly new to the game... is you keep Ethan and Numb close, get Numb to attack to upgrade a hit result to a critical that cannot be canceled, and then get an additional crit off the manglers ability. Best case scenario Numb hits for 2 crits and a regular hit per strike. If that doesn't kill them, then RSV comes in and cleans up. Meanwhile Ethan boosts to safety to reset the synergy and line up the next target. Or am I wrong on how that would work? The reason for the RSV over another combo is the maneuverability with BB8 and the dial plus the upgraded almost E wing stats

I'd encourage not trying to other with the Novices. They're mathematically worse off than X-wing rookies (better off than the Knave, though, poor guy)

I have fairly decent things to say about the Red Vet, however; that EPT makes all the difference

my first outing with an all T-70 list was, predictably, marred by some hideously bad dice that basically made the opponent's ships far more durable than they should've been (opposing Gray squadron tanking 3 T-70s for four turns <_< )

Predator Red Vets were made to hunt down opposing TLTs

Wired + R3-a2 Vets aren't incredible because Wired only triggers during the shot (so Wired really only functions as a deterrent to lower PS pilots, or if you spend a focus defensively then at least you have Wired re-rolls), but I have to recognize its utility when Poe caps out at PS 8 and we need something for Soonts/Vader

Positives about the T-70:

They're surprisingly fun and fast

They have shenanigans!

auto-thrusters! (easily more than doubled starting shield value of the generic pilots)

They look awesome!

Negatives about the T-70:

6 health, 2 agility = frail ships. They just vanish without thrusters

They're deathly allergic to HLC. Even Poe cancelling his almost guaranteed 2 damage per turn dies in 3 rounds. (tlts are chumps, though; they're lucky if they get a hit through thrusters)

they're very interesting ships; you're just going to want to compensate for their overall lack of durability (Especially against HLCs) by including some burst damage or something more efficient ala Z-95s or B-wings perhaps. Maybe, Biggs?

I played the following recently:

Poe (VI, R5-P9, Autothrusters)

Blue Ace (BB-8, Autothrusters)

Keyan Farlander (PTL)

100 points

Very cool list. Blue Ace has great maneuverability with BB-8 and his hard 1 turn boost. First game was against Dash (VI, HLC, Outrider, Chewbacca) and Corran (PTL, R2-D2, FCS, Hull Upgrade) and I was able to take out Dash quickly, then I chased Corran for a while before destroying him too. Didn't loose any ship. Second game was against Wedge (Predator, R5-P9), Esege (TLT, Recon Specialist) and Tarn (R7 Astro, Hull Upgrade). It took a bit longer but I was lucky with Wedge and shot him down early. Tarn was, as usual, annoying but I was able to concentrate fire to get him, then move on to Esege. I lost Keyan this time.
