Has anyone disassembled a maneuver tool?

By Frimmel, in Star Wars: Armada

I've come into posession of a second maneuver tool. It is assembled out to speed four. I'd like to shorten it down to a speed two but I'm concerned with breaking the tabs off and then having just one maneuver tool again. Has anyone attempted to take one of these apart?

If so how did you go about it? Were you successful?

Follow the instructions for assembly, in reverse.

Raise it up on the long side, and then, if you have to, use something small to unhook the claws, starting with the side ones.

Constantly changing the tool weakens the plastic, to the point that it has some "play" in it even when locked onto a click... So best to shorten and keep it that way, rather than back and forthing it...

I don't intend to keep changing it. It is a second tool from a collection I purchased. I don't really need two four length ones but that is better than busting this up trying to take it apart. It certainly seems like it should come apart easily enough but it also seems like it is just as easy to bust one of the tabs off.

The Tabs are sturdier than you think - you just need to go slow - you shouldn't see too much plastic deformation.

A Quick snap is the way to break it. And not in the way you want :)

If you grab it from the bottom and shake it really fast so the whole thing is flailing about, it will come apart. It worked for my 3 year old.

they are sturdy. I take mine apart all the time

If by disassemble you mean throw away in rage then yes, I have done this before. Also, my first one broke early on because one of the inner locking tabs broke/bent and got crooked, very frustrating. Had to buy a fresh one when they came out. Would recommend caution when you try this. Be very delicate.

I wonder if there is a circular token that would fit in the "knuckles" and push the three little "tabs" out in such a way as to improve the tightness. I will check later when I get home and see.

I was able to disassemble and re-assemble at just two speed the spare maneuver tool. I would not want to make it a regular thing as one of the tabs while not broken seems to have a bit of discoloration indicating bent beyond designed tolerance but it shouldn't be a problem. The main arm that holds the selected yaw value is fine. Thanks, Drasnighta!
