The Unifying Force

By Loestalx, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hello! I am posting here to inform everyone of a new project that came from a discussion on the FFG Star Wars RPG subreddit. The Unifying Force is an ambitious concept that would allow potentially hundreds of players to participate and shape a shared Star Wars experience. Similar to other organized play projects, The Unifying Force differs in that we provide no written modules to run. We simply react to what happens in your game allowing for an unlimited degree of influence over the galaxy. This is how it works....

-Gather players and using our character creation guidelines form your team.

-Run your own home custom games and report them to us.

-We take all submissions and change the game world accordingly.

Simple as that! As the game continues we will have more things available, events, major plot twists etc.

I must take this time to say that this IS a work in progress and we are still hammering out details. So go ahead and hit those links I provided and tell your friends!

I’ve seen the page and the subreddit. Do you have a link to the character creation guidelines?

I’m not making any promises, but I would be curious to see what you have.

Thanks!

We are still hammering details out. I would just keep checking back, we are looking to get beta testers going by mid October so we will have character gen stuff up pretty soon.

Is this where people just report on their Games? Or is it a game itself. Some of your description and answers isn't clear about this.

I apologize, let me clarify.

We (those who are organizing) will be creating a game world, a setting to play in that will take place soon after Return of the Jedi. Those groups that sign up and follow our character creation process can begin playing in their own home games that take place in this campaign setting. Once an adventure is complete, the GM will submit the results of that adventure to us.

Once we start getting submissions in we will change the campaign setting to reflect whats going on in our player's games. The GMs have almost all the freedom they want to run their own games. I say almost because we have a few stipulations for GMs, not using canon characters for example.

It isn't a play by post or chat based campaign. We won't be writing mods or anything like that. It's just a way to play the game while participating in a large scale ever changing campaign setting that is manipulated almost entirely by the play groups that report in. Once things get going and we have games being submitted we may create events that encourage GMs to use in their games as a focus point. For example....

A former Mof takes his forces and makes a huge push for a specific sector that is important to the New Republic. GMs can set an adventure in that sector that focuses on stopping the Mof's invasion. The specifics are left entirely up to that GM (for the most part). Once his game is finished he submits it to us. What happens next with that war zone depends entirely on the game submissions we get. We can award specific story awards for outstanding accomplishments, give them reputation and glory among the New Republic or even a credit reward.

This is just one example of the community based setting we are trying to cultivate. Hopefully that gives a better idea as to what we are trying to do.

So, this is actually an opportune announcement, because the ongoing F&D campaign that I am currently a player in, is set in roughly this time period.

So, everything we’ve already done could potentially fit right in.

Our problem is that we’re not able to play nearly as often as we would like. We try to meet once a week, but it usually ends up working out to once every three or four weeks, due to various scheduling conflicts that crop up.

How would you work something like that into your “Unifying Force” campaign-of-campaigns?

Inspiring and wonderful idea! If you could look at the campaign log in my forum signature, and let me know here or by PM if it fits the concept of the site :)

We have already considered the fact that some get to play more than others and have come up with a system that does not punish those who can rarely meet, so no worries there!

As far as current ongoing games, well...I cannot say if we would allow it. We have a character creation process, which is not very different from the books but still is in our rules. We also want to avoid anyone having too much head start. I will reach out to the other UMs (Univers Masters) and see what they say. I can't make any promises however.

I will have an official update shortly!

Good to know! Thanks!

Fair enough.

I will have an official update shortly!

Thanks! Much appreciated!

Good news. We figured out a way to allow current games into the setting. It would take a bit of finagling on your end, and if the PCs have too much XP already then they would either have to drop down to no more than an accumulated 30 xp which is probably not likely. It's not a perfect solution but we are trying to accommodate.

Keep us updated! I am interested in running a group for this

Yeah, not going to work for our current group. We started at “Knight Level” and have accumulated a decent amount of XP on top of that. And we’re finally getting to the point where we feel like we can do some semi-useful things….

But it would be interesting to see your PC generation rules, as a way to get an idea of what a good starting point would be.

Thanks!

Our official guidelines are now live. Have a look!

Best of luck with this! My campaign is still in 2 ABY, but I look forward to hearing about how your shared campaign progresses!

Our guidelines, setting, and sign are up and running on unifyingforce.net

Come on over and check it out and we'll get started together.

Registration is now open!

WOW! This is incredible! Very well done guys!
