First Imperial Build - Rookie Player!

By lapens, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi all,

I just got this game about a month ago and needless to say, I'm hooked! I'm considering going in the local shop tournament this Saturday but I'm scared silly I'll be a total noob. I'm thus after some help on my first build!

I want to go fast and mobile, and love the Slave 1 - so I'm thinking about this build:

(43) Firespray/Krassis Trelix: HLC

(30) Interceptor/Royal Guard: PtL, Autothrusters, Stealth Device

(27) Intercepter/Royal Guard: PtL, Autothrusters

I originally wanted to go with a list around Carnor Jax instead of a RG, with the Mangler instead of the HLC, but this one gives much more even spread with the Squints and the HLC is awesome. I could also swap out that Stealth Device for Rebel Captive???

Any advice for a noob will be much appreciated :)

Help!! Is this ok or will it fail hard?

I'd definetly change Stealth Device for a crew upgrade on Krassis. Pick your poison but Recon, Rebel captive or tactician (works both arcs) will bring more stability to the squad than SD.

It's a good squad, back on the day Krassis, Soontir + Academy (x2) was a very strong list. With Autothrusters in play just got a bit better.

I second the motion to drop the stealth and put a crew on Krassis, RecSpec is probably more useful than RebCap in this situation, you want to have a focus for offense with Krassis, even with his native reroll

So in terms of the Royal Guards, is it ok to go two somewhat even Interceptors, or would I be better to go a stronger one and a weaker one, like a Soontir and a Sabre/Avenger type? The reason I like the RG's is I can get ATs on both of them, with PtL, but does it leave me a bit weak across the board?

You have two options:

Two very good flankers, OR

One incredibly overpowered flanker, and an assistant.

How good are the good? How not-good is the Assistant?

When does either build have the advantage?
