When an investigator is returning from being lost in time and space to an Arkham space of their choice during upkeep, do they get the clue that is in the location they choose? The rules say they get the clue only if they end their movement in that location. This is during upkeep, not movement, so would they have to choose to not move during the movement phase to be able to collect the clue there?
Do I take the clues?
sounds like you just answered your own question to me.
I actually thought the same thing after I typed it out. Maybe I'll just start typing up the questions and not post them ![]()
Thanks for the reinforcement.
I let them take the clue. I also let them take the clue when it appears via hypnos, or during the Mythos phase. The only time I make them stop moving when gaining clues is if it occurs during the movement phase.

The only time you're supposed to pick up clue tokens is during the movement phase. If a clue appears at others times, even with an investigator there, it just sits and waits until someone picks it up during movement. That's how I understood the rules anyway.
hang on, an investigator returns from the other world to a location which contains a gate marker matching the other world he is in, not to wherever he likes,
hence there will not be a clue token there.
oh dear, must read post properly
sorry.. i think you can pick up the token, as if it apears via a hypnos phase you may have it then, and thats not movement ![]()
I really hope the FAQ clears this up.
Okay guys, the rules as written state you can ONLY pick up clues in two instances:
1) Ending movement on a location with one or more clue tokens.
2) If a clue appears on you during Mythos phase.
Unless there's an update in the FAQ which changes this (which there might be), you do NOT pick up clues at these times:
1) Moving onto a location that has a clue if you are moving there at any time NOT during movement phase (returning from Lost in Space during upkeep, if a location or OW encounter moves you to a location, etc.)
2) If a clue appears on you because of Hypnos, it occurs during UPKEEP not during Mythos, so you don't get the clue.
3) Any other time you're on a space with a clue which is not one of the two instances seen in the two examples above when you CAN pick up clues.
This is based solely on the rules as they are written, and not with the new FAQ update. However, you are always free to house rule that you can take clues any time you're in a location with them if that's something you'd like to do.
This is what the new FAQ has to say on the matter:
Q: Do you immediatly gain any clues at locations
you move to in Upkeep (from being LiTaS) or
Arkham Encounters (through being redirected by an
encounter?)
A: Yes, yes.
I don't think the Hypnos thing is covered anywhere. But this implies that an investigator can return from LiTaS, collect clues, then during movement, move to another location with clues.
Also, out of interest:
Q: Ursula Downs - If she begins on an unstable
location, can she take the clue that was there? (like
Kate Winthrop?). Can Downs start at Yha'Netheli
or the Strange High House since she isn't actually
moving there?
A: Yes, no
yea i though he could, it just seems to make sence with the rules, thanks for the confirmation though

YAY! My house rules are now official. Way to make the game EASIER to remember FFG! ;-)
Well, they might change their mind before a final release, but a blanket rule is definitely better. Seems now as though you may take a clue anytime you are in a space with it, except during movement (where you have to end your movement first).
