FAQ Update 9/29

By imprezagoatee, in X-Wing

Has anyone had a lone Pup Pyrrhic "victory"? Such a small percentage situation to get undies in a bundle, if they are that is...

Yes, someone in the New England X-wing Facebook group already asked about it online several weeks back, asking for scoring advice in the middle of a tournament.

I don't get why they'd make that change to the Pup scoring... it's clearly against the RAW of the tournament rules...

I lost a tournament game where the Pup was the last ship on the table. My opponent was using the pilot that reduces agility by spending a TL which, combined with my dice going ice cold, killed Scum Fett. This was before the FAQ ruled on the Pup so the TO scored it as a 100-100 modified win for my opponent.

Do people actually take the pup?

I thought general consensus was it wasn't worth it.

In tournaments, probably not worth it, I'll use those 6 points elsewhere and drop the value of the Hound's Tooth so that I don't shoot myself in the foot when he'll eventually get blown out (And it will happens, this ship is really just a space barn for target practice) by giving more points to my opponent.

In casual games though, it's crazy fun to get the Nashta Pup out and get a kill with it. This Motha***** just won't die!

Just let the nashta pup keep the ept from its parent ship and count those ept points until that ship is destroyed. The upgrade isn't worth it otherwise unless you're just messing around. The hounds tooth isn't worth it otherwise and the yv666 isn't worth it either.

Agreed with EPT. Just wait until the S&V get some defensive crew. Will be a game changer.

S&V really better not get any defensive crew, or else we'll never see the pup again (just Dengar and Dengar and Dengar and brobots and Dengar)

unless it's arc-dependent, as any good upgrade should be

also, the YV-666 is fine

people just have to stop treating it like a fat ship or an aggressor

it's a super shuttle for christ sake; keep it on the reasonable end of point cost!

pup is bad, though, imo. <_< 6 points to do nothing but fart out a z-95? think of all the cool crap I could be getting, instead!

S&V will get defensive crew eventually, for better or worse.

Also I agree, I am loving the trandoshan Slaver, with bossk, tactician and gunner. Cheap and hits hard.

ugh the Slaver is brutal

buzzsaw shuttle 2.0

goes right through fickle green dice

Are you referring to yourself in the third person now? :)

Wait! Are we all doing it? ****, missed the announcement...

Phocion wants a cookie. Does ficklegreendice want a cookie?

I don't want to risk the diabetes defense roll :(

Buzzsaw Scuttle is pure gold... and that dial... and that firing arc!

I'm really confused as to what anyone gets out of spending 6 Points on the Pup title. You don't get any value from the ship itself until you've lost a minimum of 35 points- and probably a lot more than that.

Honestly, just to get some use out of the cool mechanic, FFG should declare that if the Pup is the last ship standing in a 100/100 fight, the winner gets a modified victory of 106/94.

I can follow their logic- the YV-666 is dead and so all the cards attached to it are also dead. But the Pup is a special case, I think. It's a flying asterisk- just look at the pilot skill!

Why did they remove the part that says the Imperial player will always be cooler and have more respect from his peers? I guess this is a given

Common knowledge I guess...

hey they changed the SLAM action!!! so you can drop a bomb before you SLAM... wohooo

no not really...

Trolling level: GOD

Trolling level: Two headed, Giant (D&D)

Trolling level: Pratchett; The Light Fantastic, Old Grandad.

first they nerf Fel's wrath and now the pup.. Oh the humanity!!

I wish the pup was (tournament) viable, it is such a cool new mechanic! Hopefully the Phantom/Ghost combo will be functional when it comes out, would be sad to just see lone VCX-100s and Attack Shuttles but not the cool team from the show.

I think the Ghost and Phantom will be pretty viable, you can deploy any time the Ghost performs a manoeuvre. Only from the rear guides, sure, but I mean if you pull a Firespray and 2- or 3-Turn then pop out the attack shuttle, you get to choose a manoeuvre from its dial and all signs point to it being able to perform an action and attack that round by default. Even with Hera at "just" PS7 that's a great follow-up to lots of enemy ships having moved, so you get to make that call on the spot. And on top of all of that, the Ghost proper will likely have a TLT or the new Ghost pack turret and still have some threat aimed behind it, never mind what the Phantom gets up to.

I'm cautiously optimistic!

Personally, I'm glad they decided to note enthusiasm/energy level as a scoring mechanism for the victory dance scoring. It's great to have a good routine, but after X-winging it all day you deserve points for keeping the energy level high in your victory dances.

Thinking a little bit more about the Pup, I think the ruling is fair.

If you really got yourself in a situation where the only ship you have left is the Pup and you achieve to destroy all your opponent ship, I think we can say that you stole the victory. You should have lose the game, but still managed to won thanks to your escape ship. So, the Pup can be useful to steal a win in a game that you should have lost in the first place. But I don't think that's the reason why you should take the title.

Let's face it, the YV-666 is a ship easy to destroy and is worth a lot of points. You can equip it to be a real threat that your opponent just can't ignore or it will bite him. Odds are good that it will be the first target of your opponent: Easy points right there and a big threat out early so you can focus on the other ship(s). And that's where I think the Nashtah Pup can shine: He will continue the fight. If you took Bossk, that's still a PS7 Z-95 that can turn a crit into 2 hit; if you took Razzi, that's a PS5 Z-95 that can still drop the agility of one ship per round if it has a TL on the target. That's not too bad for 6 points. And the best part is, it is now worth nothing. It means that while it is still there fighting, your opponent won't get more points by shooting at it, all the shot he takes on the Pup is shots he won't take on the rest of the team. He's not a big threat, but just enough to be annoying. So it might bring your opponent in a dilemna.

So, when you take the Pup, you should not take it just to steal the win, you should take it so that your Hound's Tooth can continue the fight even when it is destroyed. Take it if you think the Hound's Tooth will be the first target, not the last. So, thinking about it a little bit more, I think that the Pup might have its place in certain build, even in a tournament. It's definetly not an auto-include and might not be useful in every games, but I would not totally dismiss it when building a team.

I've played against the yv666 twice now and its not made it past turn three even using EU, it's weird because I've never lost a decimator that fast not even a naked generic.

I've used the YV-666 once and it actually didn't take a single point of damage. My opponent was focusing everything on my TLT Y-Wings instead most of the time, but whenever they did shoot at the 666 they only rolled one hit and it got an evade which was pretty funny.

I've faced the 666 twice so far and it died pretty fast. But interestingly enough, I lost one of these games because of the Pup. I think the Pup's worth is situational but has the potential to turn a game in your favor.

first they nerf Fel's wrath and now the pup.. Oh the huminity!!!

Edit: "Oh the humidity!!!"
