FAQ Update 9/29

hey they changed the SLAM action!!! so you can drop a bomb before you SLAM... wohooo

no not really...

Weird. Seems they removed the secotion awarding points for well delivered trash talk.

Why did they remove the part that says the Imperial player will always be cooler and have more respect from his peers? I guess this is a given

They changed the text for the Nashtah Pup from Full win to Modified win in their example on how it scores.

Reversals aren't my favorite thing. And they're especially not my favorite when they directly conflict with other written, published rules.

I'm confused, can't you still drop a bomb before your initial movement? or at least drop a connor net with your free action from advanced slam? I can see why they removed the free action part only because it cut down on some potential nutiness with things like PTL, Cracken or even squad leader.

I liked your first statement. That's not how it works.

Tournament Rules have not been updated and still state:

  • At the end of a game round, all of one player’s ships are destroyed. The player with at least one ship remaining immediately earns a win, and the opposing player receives a loss. If neither player has any remaining ships, the game ends in a draw.
  • At the end of the current round, the match time limit has been reached. (If time is called mid-round, players must finish the round.) Each player calculates their score by adding together the total squad point value of their opponent’s destroyed ships, including Upgrade cards equipped to those ships. The player with the greater score receives a win, and his opponent receives a loss. If the winning player’s score is fewer than 12 points more than his or her opponent’s score, that player receives a modified win. If both players have the same score, the game ends in a draw.

The Pup now scores as follows:

  • If the only ship remaining in a match is the Nashtah Pup Pilot, the player who controls that ship wins. If this scenario arises during a tournament match, the Nashtah Pup Pilot is treated as though it is worth 1 point. For example, in a standard 100 point dogfight match, the player who controls the Nashtah Pup Pilot earns a modified win and has a margin of victory of 101 and his opponent scores 99.

They're talking about the incorrect example from the K-Wing article where the player would move, choose to SLAM, then treat the SLAM as revealing a maneuver to drop a Seismic Charge, Ion Bomb, or Proton Bomb. The FAQ has since clarified that doing a SLAM doesn't count as revealing a maneuver, so you can't do that. The article has also been corrected. A lot of players were disappointed by this.

Dropping action bombs (Conner Net, et al) via Advanced Slam still works just fine.

Trolling level: GOD

Aside from this Nashtah Pup tournament scoring bit I didn't notice anything else new in there.

I don't think the hounds tooth needed another nerf it's not competitive.

I'd still like to see the ept transfer to the pup.

I've got nothing against the Pup awarding a modified win. If you're down to your emergency escape fighter and nothing else (even a Binayre Pirate would push you to Full Win) I'm pretty sure that defines "modified victory"

The Pup should really be worth 6 points.

I also think those 6 points shouldn't be included when calculating how many points the YV-666 is worth when it is at half-damage! If you never shoot the pup down why should you get any points for it?

How are they going to handle points for the Gozanti cruiser if it has unlaunched TIE fighters attached?

Uh, because that's what the tournament rules state clearly, if you have any ship remaining, you get a win. Modified wins/losses are a penalty for not having a clear winner when time is called, now they're also a penalty for winning with the Pup as your last ship as well (it's not like the pup was in any way overpowered, or dominating the field or anything). I almost wonder if this correction was an error, there seems to be no logic behind it.

Eh, I don't really see why it needs to be worth even 1 point, but at least it's only worth that point if it's the last ship. If it's worth anything than it should be worth that all of the time, and then the title shouldn't be worth anything at all. But that would create a strange situation where you are "hiding" points inside a larger ship, which is probably what they wanted to avoid.

I would guess that they would argue it makes the game more exciting. If all one player has left is the pup, and you have a weakened fat turret do you risk going for full win against a very cheap ship or do you try to play safe with your points?

The only change I saw was on page 14 of the FAQ. Section 5, Actions And Game Effects.

Third Question in red.

Can a ship that is overlapping an asteroid perform free actions? Yes.

The original answer was no. That was the only change I saw.

Do people actually take the pup?

I thought general consensus was it wasn't worth it.

Has anyone had a lone Pup Pyrrhic "victory"? Such a small percentage situation to get undies in a bundle, if they are that is...

That was also part of the changes from the day-after-release. So it's not new either.

I got close online. The Z killed two out of the three remaining ships by itself. Those two were damaged considerably (over half dead), though.

I've seen a Moralo pup (I.e. no ability) get a victory over either Fel or Echo(I don't remember which). It was epic and totally hilarious.
