For those that want to follow my unboxing of the Wave 2 ships.
Thanks for sharing the pics. Honestly, the whole wave looks great. I can't wait to get my hands on them.

A video is up.
Yes. I did this. . . And the store got really mad at me. . .
Well, a little bit of discretion would have been advised. Like, you know, not linking everyone to your facebook page, lol!
In the article today FFG suggested running 5 Firesprays in a list. Anyone thinking about buying five packs of R&V? I have to admit I'm thinking about it, because 5-6 firesprays would be slightly cheaper than the bomber fleet I posted earlier and wouldn't require loading up the ISDs with squadron commands, so they could get damage boosting upgrades instead. The only benefit of the carrier list is you can use an Intel ship to avoid engagements (and 4 more anti-squadron dice because of the Flight Controllers), whereas the FIresprays operating away from your ships can't have an Intel ship with them.
There are so many combos now, it really seems like just building a balanced list and then getting good with it will be the most important thing, as setting up and commanding well is just as important as an optimized list and helps a list shine.
This will be a thing. Not sure I'll be able to stomach buying that many packs myself, but someone will. And it will be terrifying...
I could also see multiples of the generic Jumpmaster 5000. At twelve points, a four-speed, four-hull squadron with Intel and Swarm seems built to run with a Howlrunner pack, or a fast-moving bombing wing if paired with TA escorts. Add Dengar to the mix, and that's significant defensive firepower, too. Generic HWK's, too (cheap cost, valuable for preventing other squadrons from being pinned down).
Is it any different than someone making a base with the exact dimensions (because we have them) and testing with that
The barrier to entry is significantly higher, particularly since part of the appeal of FFG's miniatures line is precisely that you don't have to **** around assembling your toys before you play with them. You're the only one at those events who will not have that barrier in place.
But I mean, you could always run a survey: ask everyone at the events if they made their own large base to practice with.
What alarms me at this point is that the tournament kit (and the ships) have not yet arrived for our Massing at Sullust event. The local gameshop was charged for and got an electronic copy of their paid invoice 5 days ago, but still no delivery.

Me too, (6 or 7 packs?), but the painter in me is crying about the thought of painting over 50 squadrons, again! ![]()
Yeah, I'll probably get 6 R&V, and get one more Rebel and Imp to take those to 5 each. It's just too cool not to run a bunch of Firesprays or YT-1300s.
I cringe at the thought of players forgoing actual fighters and bombers and instead running modified light freighters as their squadron support.

How dare resource strapped rebels adapt and make do with what they have.
This is exactly why we must put down this rebellion in the first place.

5 seems ridiculous, but I can see four of the following showing up in dedicated lists
'Sprays
YVs
Silly Bombers
YT-2400/Aggressors (maybe, depends on how much you need to counter enemy bombers without giving enough of a toss to use interceptors); leaning much more heavily towards YTs due to increased speed in a faction where there isn't a lot of it outside A-wings
going to be sitting around with a lot of redundant HWKs and jumpmasters, though
I will say I called Boosted comms
Could read boosted comms and independence day one.

Right. Good for you. Too bad you did not tell us then eh?
Much to my relief our tournament pack showed up today. They look beautiful, but will remain in their shrink wrap until our first & second place finishers get to open them to build their final round fleets.

why?
I got to hold the box with the ISD last night.
Holy crap, that thing is magnificent. It arguably dwarves the GR-75 model from X-Wing in size.

Yes. . . Oh yes. . .I know. . .
I went to my brand new 2 week old FLG today, they're holding a Sullust tomorrow. I got to see the new models, still wrapped in their boxes. The ISD truly MAASIVE
- the MC80 was a little, erm, well, undersized :/
It seems like the event will not be well attended, so they're saying they may not make it official and hand out prizes
(
Should be a good day anyway.

Boy that's cool yet ultimately disappointing. I'd be thrilled not to have to drive further than my FLGS, but even if they got the kit, it'd likely be the same results here.

That be something to shoot FFG an email about. Not handing out prizing for a pre-release event is extremely shady.
Well as it stands there may only be two of us ! We'll see how many turn up.
I'd like to be on good turns with the store, as it is the only store near me that has space to run events, so I don't think I want to report them to FFG or anything like that. They are saying that there needs to be a minimum of 10 players for it to be an official tournament - is that correct? I'm thinking they don,t want to open the boxes if they don't have enough players to cover the cost of holding the tournament, or something like that.
That is not true at all. The kit insert even recommends cutting a Swiss round if attendance is under 8, so clearly FFG anticipates event being run with less then 10.
Honestly it seems as if you store is lying to you in an effort to allow them to not run the event the signed up to host.
I understand the difficult situation however I'm not sure of what kind of standing I'd want to cultivate with a store that is operating in a shady manner.

Oh Chucknuckle, your post says no, but the Falcon icon under your name says yes yes yes.
