Trying to capitalize on mobility and agility -- AAE

By WeepingAngel2, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So I'm trying to build a list that anchors on high agility and high mobility, and if I can get some squadron synergy out of it, I won't turn it down.

So I'm starting out from a position of looking at a pair of A-wings, anchored by an E-wing. This leads me to this list:

PS5 Etahn (E-wing)

~ Sensor Jammer

~ R7 Astromech

PS7 Jake (A-wing)

~ A-wing Test Pilot

~ Push The Limit

~ Outmaneuver

~ Autothrusters

~ Chaardan Refit

PS8 Tycho (A-wing)

~ A-wing Test Pilot

~ Push The Limit

~ Dare Devil

~ Autothrusters

~ Chaardan Refit

Etahn, being the anchor, is set up in more of a defensive build, to help the A's capitalize on every attack. Jake really pushes capitalization with Outmaneuver to reduce opponent agility.

But then I got to thinking, with two arc-dodgers and Etahn, am I leaving the E as a big fat target that will go down too quickly, not being able to bring his synergy to the squad? Which then pushed the question, is Tycho really adding to the quality of this list, being a Jake-Echo?

So is there a better anchor ship to pair here, and is there a better role that Tycho can fill, or should another ship/pilot fill this or that other role?

First of: Etahn is as much an arc-dodger as native-Tycho. (Barrel roll vs Boost)
When that is said though, consider expert handling on Tycho (if you want the arc-dodging so badly).

- I personally like Arvel Crynyd a lot. His ability forces people to fly differently, since they cannot bump into him at any cost.

- On the subject of Etahn.. I like him, but not so much in this list. the lack of firepower prevents Etahn from really making an impact.

You could drop tycho for Crynyd, and gain Corran instead of Etahn:

PS8 Corran Horn
- Fire Control System
- R2-D2
- Marksmanship

PS7 Jake Farrel
- A-wing Test Pilot
- Push the Limit
- Outmaneuver
- Autothrusters
- Chardaan Refit

PS6 Arvel Crynyd
- A-wing test Pilot.
- Push the limit.
- Autothrusters.
- Chardaan Refit.

You could give Corran Sensor Jammer + VI instead of Marksmanship and FCS, if you want to make sure he survives, so your A-wings can have fun.
Not sure how viable the list are, but hey, might be fun! :)

I love 'psycho Tycho', but feel he's even better with proton rockets (but that's 38 pts). BTW, Jake and psycho tycho (that is, Tycho w/ PtL + daredevil) do NOT fly at all similarily. In fact, they are very different from each other and will take a bit of practice to get used to each (Jake flies more like a TIE interceptor) and nothing can match psycho tycho for crazy turning...

But yes, Etahn is likely to get left in the dust and its possible he'll be focussed on considering the other two will (or should) be all over the place...

I remember running this list at one point:

Corran

- Outmaneuver

- FCS

- EU

- R2-D2

2x Green

- PtL

- Concussion

This was before Rebel Aces, so it might be able to be updated, but it focuses on the same thing, E as a base and two As to assist. I managed to beat Jonus Brothers with it and an elite list of 3 Interceptors and Howlie.

I like tycho with test pilot, ptl, daredevil, experiental interface, and chardaan. He can now, for example, take a 1 hard, boost, ei for daredevil, ptl for f/e/tl. The 1 hard, boost, dd very nearly leaves youdirectly behind where you started and facing 45 right or left (depending on which way you started you turn) of your initial position.

(33 points)

Then I like jake with test pilot, outmaneuver, predator, at, and chardaan. Now his action can be devoted to evade and his offensive value is still high.

(30 points)

third ship can be 37 points which could be esege tuketu w/ tlt and recon spec. this would allow tycho and jake to still have an offensive focus until the k-wing dies and you can use the super maneuverable a-wings to help keep people out of the range 1 tlt blind spot. if you aren't so keen on the experimental interface for tycho you could swap it for at and play Miranda w/ c-3po and tlt instead. not sure I like that better though.

Wired + PTL is fun on Tycho. Gives him a bit more offense and defense
