Allow Integrated Astromech now (for non-tournaments)?

By heychadwick, in X-Wing

Hi All,

Not so much into tournament games right now. I'm playing a lot of scenarios, and Epic, and just fun matches. Yes, you can do anything you want in fun matches, but.....just trying to gauge people's opinions. Do you guys think it would be worthwhile to allow proxy Integrated Astromech cards out now? I love X-wings and want to see them on the table. It would be cool to see people want to take them for fun games. What do you think?

Allow them for fun games? Not allow them until they come out officially.

For instance, I'm thinking of running the Raider campaign this week and think it would be good to allow the Rebels to take it.

Patience is such a lost virtue these days...

We've just had the TFA core drop, wave 7 is still fresh, and the Raider only slightly less so. Can we actually spend some time with them rather than jumping ahead a wave?

We've been using them for friendlies in our local, but we always do that with spoiled upgrade cards. We were using Prototype Veteran before it's name was changed to give our A-wings a boost.

I don't ever see an issue with proxying spoilt cards unless you're playing in or practising for a tournament.

Options are good. Use options.

Normally I absolutely agree with you on this. I really am reeling from too many options right now. Then again, I usually play Imperials or Scum. I just love X-wings and want to see them on the table. My friends asked me to set up a Rebel list for the Imperial Raider missions and I just want to put X-wings in there, but don't want to see them blanche.

I've never proxied a card before it's out before, but am thinking this one might be it.

I just want more X-wings on the table.

I don't like to use stuff I don't physically have - so I'd never do it. I don't like playing against unreleased stuff either, and I'd rather you only play me using what you own as well. However, in terms of playtesting I'm ok with the occasional proxy. Or if you are struggling financially, I will probably be ok with you using a printed card or three for casual games. I prefer not to, but at the end of the day it's not a huge deal.

There are some people I know that do it ALL the time though, and that bothers me. I feel like when people print all of their cards and use micromachines glued to pegs instead of real ships, that I'm no longer playing X-Wing, I'm playing a "Bring your toys and lets roll some dice because the sky is falling and this isn't how life should be"

What kind of coal would you have to replace your heart with to not allow people to play their vanilla X-wings again?

I don't normally proxy, but am fine with other people doing it. I am proxying Extra Munitions, though. Times are tight and I haven't gotten any of the Wave 7 stuff with EM. I admit that I don't really want to much, either. I just want EM! It makes my 4 Tie Bombers much more efficient. I'll probably get around to 1 Tie Punisher and 1 K-wing, but I don't really feel like buying more of them just for EM.

I proxy a bunch of cards as soon as they're spoiled. Of course, nearly all my X-wing games are in tournaments, so those proxies I print out usually are never used …

I buy the models I like, and print the cards for models I don't want to buy.

As a new player learning the ropes, playing with friends and family, this really keeps the costs down. If and when I decide to play a tournament I will of course have to purchase the real stuff, but in the meantime, if it's available online and my printer has ink, it's happening.

In a non-competative environment, I'm fine with proxying cards to test out how they'll work ahead of their official release.

In the case of Integrated Astromech, I've been proxying the heck out of this card lately on T-65s and T-70s of all pilot skills, and have been very satisfied with the results to date.

I can't think of any reason why you wouldn't allow it outside a tournament. I mean, we all know the X-wings need a little nudge, so why not? It's official and we're really only waiting for it to hit store shelves.

I think it's important for players to be able to use things before they come out anyway, so that they can get some experience under their belts in case they DO want to enter a tournament immediatly after release.

I would like them to be legal for league games.

The cards Been spoiled there's no reason to deny its use in casual play I say go for it.

but...but..... it's not OUT yet! If that's the case why not just proxy everything? Why buy anything for the game when you can just make your own stuff?

it's chaos I tell you. Dogs and Cats living together in harmony.

Ask your opponent. We proxy things for fun/play testing all the time :)

We proxy cards but not the ships so dont worry ffg's bottom line is safe.

why when target has new core sets discounted by 1/3 if you buy 3..

why when target has new core sets discounted by 1/3 if you by 3..

1) Because IA is exclusive to the T70 pack, which isn't out yet.

2) Because you're still spending $27 per pack for a T70 ship if you don't need the FO ties, and you will probably never need six FO TIEs ever.

doh.. thx

As cards to proxy go, a 0-pt modification is probably one of the more reasonable to go with.

That said, I'm less fussed. I'm happy knowing the X-wing is getting a boost soon, but I've plenty of toys to play with in the meantime.

Tru dat... Tru dat...

Our rule used to be proxy fixes (TIE/x1 and ATC, Chaardan Refit) but nowadays I don't get out the upgrade cards I do own, because they're a pain to put away again. Nowadays, if it's in the squad builder, it's fair game.

^^^^^^ This.

For whatever reason FFG insist on "Previewing" the cards many months in advance, though I would probably call it premature viewing as after the months go by the excitement for the actual cards wanes to just a dribble by the time you can actually have a legitimate copy of the card (Even more so for us "Outer Rim" Countries, we don't even have the new core set yet!)

Best to make the most of it while its shiny and new, even if you cant play it in a tournament for several months.
