T-70 Nick names

By Kiwi Rat, in X-Wing

jj-wing.

Yeah, I need to look closely at T-70's in flight to make sure those aren't spinning. If they're just louvers, that's okay, if annoying. I can't shake the feeling that the only reason for some of the T-70's design features is to confuse fans who seek out leaked images from set.

What annoys me about them is half an intake fan on each of the engines.

How does that work?

Look at the F102 and the F106. The area of the intake and trunk are all that really matters.

The T-65 didn't have fans, why are people imagining the T-70 has fans?

To add to what Stoneface said - the AV8 Harrier had the intake fan deep in the center of the fuselage reached by two semicircular intake ducts, so even if the T-70 has an intake fan for some reason, it doesn't have to be right up front or as big as the intake duct we see.

Gosh, is it ever fun to over-think things. Sometimes it's exhausting, though. Whoever mentioned that physics in the SW galaxy probably operate under a completely different set of physics than our own, good for you. That's the right attitude.

But getting back on topic... I'll probably just call them "T-70". Someone said that sounds Russian... you're right. Suppose you could always pick a Eurasian animal that they most represent and call 'em that. кабан or кречет or whatever.

However, the T-70 IS freakin' fast, and it CAN drift, so I might just start calling it "eight-six" or "hachi-roku" and see how many game stores I can get thrown out of.

They're full intakes, each "half" is easily bigger than the comparable part of the T-65.

No they're no, look inside them.

It's half a fan.

It *looks* sort of like half a fan, but since there's no air in space, there would be no point to a fan being there.

The fins you see are almost surely radiator fins - there to vent heat produced by the engine into space. For this type of construction, the round arrangement doesn't matter, but is probably an aesthetic choice and one that benefits the fighter when flying in atmosphere.

Don't forget jj put air intakes on space ships before don't put the illogical beyond him.

You seem to have an unhealthy obsession over JJ Abrams. Some sort of love/hate idolatry going on? You also seem to give him far more credit on a film than he likely deserves - he's the director, not the screenwriter, model maker, director of photography, key grip, propmaster, or any other of the hundreds of jobs a given film production has. He has input and final say in a lot of that, but it's not a one-man show where every idea spouted from his own head.

Back on topic, Scissor-Wing sounds deadly, and they kinda act that way too with the two halves sliding right past each other.

I really like the wing shape of the T-65, with its straight leading edge and slightly forward swept trailing edge.

The new wing shape (when the foils are closed) is more of a traditional straight taper, with the leading edge swept back and the trailing edge swept forward. It's OK... when the foils are closed. When they are open, the stagger looks a little awkward from some angles, although this shot is definitely rad:

I'm hoping it will grow on me. It's certainly a fun ship to fly with its "Tokyo Drift" move.

T-70 "Scissor Wing"

T-70 ✂-wing

You are trying too hard

No, not really. Like random dice throws I've been playing in the 2 and 3 SD range. It'll change when I find my mind. Of all the things I've lost, I miss it the most.

There you are, sitting have a leisurely read through the day's X-Wing Forums' escapades and wham, bloody real life engineering and physics.

I mean c'mon, it's clearly an advanced thingamabob that works everywhere.

I implore you all; please, please stop trying to apply logic to Star Wars. That way madness lies.

Cheers

Baaa

Scissor-Wing = S-wing, and this can be shortened to Swing ;)

"Hey have you seen the new Swing that Poe is flying around in"

ドリフト-X

Silly, but it could work. DORIFUTO-X sounds like a rock band.

Personally, I'm more partial to names that are not [insert letter here]-wing. Even though it's traditiooooooooooooon. if-i-were-a-rich-man-o.gif

X, and X-2...done

I call it the next wing.

Having looked at the new T-70 a couple of times, I must admit that I really don't like the new wing design of the T-70.

I mean it is hardly S-foils that are deployed in the iconic X formation as we know, but more small fins or wing stubs, with Laser cannons attached to the tip, that look to big in size to be attached to such a small fin or wing stub.

So I've come up with some (IMHO) appropriate nick names for the T-70, that refer to its wing design, or lack of wing design, however you look upon it ;)

Half-wing or H-wing, Because the wings are literary Half in size of the T-65 wings

Fin-wing or F-wing, Because the wings can hardly be called wings but are more akin to small fins, that fish have.

Stub-wing or S-wing, Because the wings look like small wing stubs, rather than real wings.

So what do you think?

Do you have some other Nick names that the T-70 could be called in reference to its wing design, or to tell it apart from the iconic T-65.

PS: If the above seems a bit biased then its because I'm foremost an OT fan, the PT or NT is just extra icing on the cake.

X2, Ar X-Wing, SU-Wing

T-70.

T-70. Not sure why it needs a new nickname....it's still an x-wing.

After the last couple of losses it was easy.

TIE Fighters are called Eyeballs, Interceptors are Squints, B-Wings are Crosses, Z-95s are Skulls, the T-70 i've taken to calling Splits.

Duckbill

Its got a big flat wide nose compared to the original T65.
