Team Fortress

By Admiral Deathrain, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hello everyone,I had an idea concerning fortresses.

https://geordanr.github.io/xwing/?f=Scum%20and%20Villainy&d=v3!s!134:-1,-1,-1,123,-1,-1:-1:14:;106:54:-1:-1:;109:98,43,110,-1,-1,-1:-1:15:

This is a list that uses it. The idea is that the YV is set up in a corner with the M3A next to it in a way that it can bump every turn. The YV pulls red stops every turn and has a focus to attack. The fortress can easily break up and reform at another place because of how they are set up with their PS.

The exact loadout and additional ships can vary, but I think the idea might have potential. You could even mirror the list and go full fortress mode.

What are your ideas concerning loadouts? Did I miss a cheaper EPT carrier for Scum?

Edit: Here is another list: https://geordanr.github.io/xwing/?f=Scum%20and%20Villainy&d=v3!s!134:-1,-1,-1,123,-1,-1:-1:14:;106:54:-1:-1:;133:-1,-1,133,21,122,-1:24:-1: It adds Latts to the bump-train. Since she is the obvious priority target she gets the title. She clears the Bossk stress every turn by bumping into the others with a green. I need to plan out the exact setup for this! And then I need to get two YVs...

Fortress lists are pretty boring to play - and to play against - and therefore I don't spend no time on them - sorry

Okay, I guess we can close this thread if you don't care.

No seriously, I believe fortressing has been a consideration when designing the Hounds Tooth, since it has all the tools to do it well with its arc, stop manouver and crew options for keeping the action economy, which was the problem of Lambdas attempting anything similar. Just standing in the corner is not going to win you the game, even with the lists I just made up, it's the ability to turtle up on the fly that fascinates me and that might make this list fun to play.

I imagine it plays a bit like this: Turtle up after deployment, wait where your opponent moves, once you seea good opportunity jump on to him and turtle up again. This requires a good situational awareness and the ability to reform bump trains on the fly with pretty precise controll over your angles to cover blind spots. I am not quite sure about asteroids yet (which you want, debris doesn't cut it here!). You want a field where your opponent has difficulty approaching you, but also some lanes for you to break the fortress.

I know fortress lists are controversial, but this is a bit different. You don't win a game if you turtle in your deployment zone all game long, but the ability to not move for more than one turn gives the YV-666 a unique ability.

I like my YT-666 fortress with Moralo Eval and two Scyks, and all 3 have Ion Cannons.

When you paralyze someone that close to the world's edge, it's suddenly more lethal than you'd think

You could fortress, or you could play X-Wing. Your call :)

I have seen that in the other YV fortress thread, but I like the ability to lay down damage a bit better. The ion fortress relies on your opponent playing your game, while I have the ability to take the game into my hands at an opportune moment to lay on the hurt and then reform my fortress. I love how the scyck actually has a place in both of our lists :D

I don't think you understand how this lists would work. I know it is not your playstyle and I am aware that people hate fortressing, but I think it suits the YV-666 in a thematic way and would not hurt the game if it is a kind of working but not OP fringe list. I love X-Wing and everything surrounding it and it is my pleasure to run extravagant things and a fortress build fits right in with that. I am the kind of person that builds mill and fatigue decks in Hearthstone and that shows in how I enjoy X-Wing.

Im not sure how i feel about the Lonewolf on the IG. You have the points for it, why not predator?

Because with the mini-fortress set up it is incredibly easy to activate Lone Wolf and the value for defense is pretty good. I don't like that list as much as the second one, though, it was more of a first draft of the Wingman/stop + Outlaw Tech combo.

in your Original post i didnt see anything about the placement of the IG, so i figured it was in the pile with the YV and the wingman... That makes sense then.

Imperial Fortress Ft. Spacecows!

I firmly believe with Epsilon leader Imperials will be (if anyone) Fortress leaders of tomorrow a long long time ago

That looks strong, although the arcs aren't that usefull for breaking and reforming the fortress.

3x shuttle+ leader with 18pts for another ship or upgrades. 34 un-mooooove-able HP. No breaking out of that one.

Fortressing gets a lot of flak still due to that one game that one time that was broadcast during a big tournament. Most competitive "Fortress Builds" must break out and breakout fairly soon. Neither the YV or the shuttle have the dial luxury or the durability to weather a full lists fire for more than a round or 2.

Thematically speaking the opposing player knows there is an enemy fleet laid up waiting for repairs or taking rest... Will they be able to choose the right route to pounce on them? Is it a trap? Actually very thematic but not when you're expecting a dogfight.

Admiral Deathrain. You seem to be a little new on the forums... Maybe, maybe not. But either way. People don't really like fortresses. There's a few people here who love them of course, but frankly, the rest won't want to even speak to you.

They just don't find it something they can even passively stand by.

Check this tweak out (and this one)!

This strikes me as the kind of post that didn't actually read the thread and is just a knee-jerk reaction to the word "fortress". The OP has actually created a novel build which is a mobile fortress. If you don't like fortresses, fine, you don't have to come here and say it. Just ignore the thread and let everyone else enjoy theorizing about an intriguing aspect of X-Wing. Because, while it's not first on my list of tactics, looking at these lists I can't help but think, "Neat!"

Oh I understand it alright mate. I really do. But you are kidding yourself if you think this is in any way 'thematic'. Plenty of excuses can be made for it, but no better than that.

Not having a go at you, but if you put something up for comments, you might get ones that don't agree with you :)

Oh I have been lurking when the fortress game of 2014 hit, I remember that sh*tstorm. I am not exactly disgusted by the idea of a fortress and I think it is fascinating to make work (which is what I do, see my comments concerning Hearthstone), but I would agree that it would be bad if this were to become the meta. For some games? Fun, no question. All the time? Terrible, I like manouvering too much for that. You have to play the right person of course, someone who doesn't mind some extraordinary games, so I would definitly not take this to a tournament and force people to play it (thats not even speaking of the list probably not being the best call for winning reliably), but for my own enjoyment? No reason not to think about it and I know that there are people who feel the same, so I asked these what they think about this action crazy maybe on the edge of viability fortress.

I know the backlash of course. People get upset when I force them to play 30 minute games in Hearthstone with their Face Hunter decks, with so much healing for me that its almost impossible to win for them, I deal with that all the time.
