The Raider Appreciation Thread

By SpikeSpiegel, in X-Wing

I'm sure I'm not the only one who fell in love with the Raider when it was finally in our hands. So, post your pictures of your beloved, wedge-shaped slice of Imperial might!

Against my own financial advice, I ended up buying 3 at a discounted price, 2 of them from locals with the exception of the TIE Adv. cards and standard playables (sorry, ObiWanka). But what can I say? Owning 3 of these devilishly slick looking beasts is awesome. Not to mention that they'll look daunting when I'm fielding all three of them in an upcoming 2,400 point game.

Feel free to post your Raiders, in action, docked on your shelf, or (props to whomever has it) hanging from the ceiling, vigilantly watching over their sector of the Empire.

:D

This is where it currently lives

When I've finally got it painted pink and black-lined I will do just that.

An oldie but a goodie...

I bloody love you Raider. Been waiting two weeks for you to arrive in the mail!! Hurry up and get here, so I can give you the love you deserve.

Sincerely,

Rippy (Raider enthusiast)

Played some games with it, it's fantastic. I wish epic play was a more common thing. There should definitely be a epic tourney alongside each official one. Sure you'd only get a few people but the games are longer so it'd even out.

Why don't you display them with the star field sides? And more importantly where is the GR-75? :P

While we're at it, here's another underappreciated Raider...

Oh, go one then. One last one.

How other people see your Raiders. How you see your Raiders.

Just sayin'.

(This is just for the forum btw, you will not see random pictures of your ships floating around on the internet.)

That picture is so beautifull it makes me want to cry!

I want a Raider...but it is so expensive!

I saw somewhere that someone had made stickers for the engines of the Raider. They were free for download. I wish I could remember where I saw that. Anyone else see it? Recall where it is?

Have you really had a hard time? I just wanted to do the intro mission with the Raider for the campaign and so many people were interested, it turned into a big 6 person epic game!

Has anyone played the campaign? Is it good? It seems that it would be cool to go through as you learn about the Raider (and Tie Adv) through each mission.

Love mine! Have only Been in one Epic match so far though, need to set up another one soon.

The fury of 2 Raiders on the table:

Epic 3 vs 3 casual game, 425 points, 6 epic points.

Complete report can be found here: http://www.moseisleyraumhafen.com/t7903-epic-bereiten-wir-dem-imperium-ein-ende

Its written in german language but there are images, too ;)

This guy in between the Raiders (behind the table of course) ... guess who.

I only got one and I love it. And that Picture with the three Raiders just makes me want to go out right now and get two more...

I found them on the German board (with Pictures of how they look on the Raider)

Thanks so much! Sending to work printer now...

I'll have to see which is better. Anyone have an opinion?

My son and I played the Raider campaign. We've bought all the epic ships, but this was the first we got to the table, so there was a learning curve, but we really enjoyed it.

He (playing Imperials) totally kicked my ass, but we had a good time.

I'm looking forward to getting a less build-restricted Raider on the table soon.

I'm wondering what would be a good Rebel list to take for the first mission? Since I'm the only one with a Raider at the moment, my friends asked me to make a Rebel list. I'm also thinking of taking the Rebels to force one of them to learn Epic rules. :)

I'm thinking:

Grey Squadron Y-wing w/ EM and Proton Torp

Rookie X-wing w/ Flechette Torp

Rookie X-wing

Blue B-wing w/ HLC

I am also tempted to allow Integrated Astromech for the X-wings. Drop the Flechette Torp to add them in.

Thoughts?

Remember, you need to kill at least one Tie/Adv and then get one ship off the table. The Y-Wing might be a liability here, since you don't need to attack the Raider directly and it's not much help against the TIEs. The Y-Wing and B-Wing are both very juicy targets for the Raider, only ever getting 2 green dice max against all the Raider's shots of 4 or more red dice. When we played it, my friend didn't really pay attention to the objectives and lost horribly. He wasn't fast enough to engage the TIEs without taking punishing fire from the Raider, and wouldn't have been able to get away fast enough either.

You can totally game the mission by having a Z-95 circling off in a corner away from the fight ready to flee once a TIE/Adv goes down, though that's not very sporting.

I am in awe of your legit photoshop skills!!! :D

Actually, I wasn't thinking of attacking the Raider. I was thinking of using the Proton Torpedoes for the Tie Advanced. You get to reach out early and hit the Tie Advanced at R3 with a Proton Torpedo. They don't get the extra green die for range. You can strip their tokens and have the B-wing fire through with HLC. Next are the X-wings firing.

The idea is to take out one Tie Advanced early and run with the rest. The X-wings fly fast and hit hard. They can boogie out of it once you take out the Tie Adv. I am thinking of letting them use the Integrated Astromech, though.

B-wing will probably be the primary target of everything, which is OK. That's what it's there for.

Solid plan, then. Provided the Raider lets you get close enough - remember it's range 4 and can fire twice out of the front arc with 4 dice each. And that's just the primary. Don't remember what else it gets in that mission - if it gets single turbolasers, it'll be rough.

Unless the TIEs hide behind the Raider, I think you'll do well.

It gets 2 Quad Laser Cannons and a Single Turbo Laser in the rear. So....hurts to get close and stay away.

The X-wings will help being fast to get to any Tie Advanced that hides. I'll have to see who's playing, but I wouldn't want to hid the Tie Advanced too much. Remember that they can't get to use the X1 title until they get 2 kills. So, that is motivation to get out there.

So fully loaded then. Yep, no good safe spot for the Rebels there. You need to zip in and zip out - no wonder Rebels aren't allowed A-Wings! Couple of A-Wings with Proton Rockets and it's game over.

Eh, never thought about flipping it over.

The GR-75 is sitting in a box a couple shelves lower, because it's just not as cool :P
