Han Solo aka the man!

By DannyB86, in Star Wars: Armada

I have a question regarding Han Solo. Since he activates during the ship phase, does that mean he counts as a ship activation?

The fact that he gets to shoot first is awesome to begin with, but if I'm reading this right you can use him as a 26 point ship to help give you more activations. I tend to be a little upgrade happy so I have fewer ships on the board and this would certainly that issue.

No, it activates at the start of the Ship Phase (at the same time Moff Tarkin's ability triggers), but that does not make it a ship or count as a ship activation in any way.

His ability is at the same time as Tarkin and does not count as an activation.

He can also activate during the squadron phase, so he can go late then go again at the start of the following turn. So he gets twice as much pew-pew and not as much back.

Han always shoots first.

I was explaining Han's ability to my 12 year old son today while in the car. He just started grinning & laughing.

After a minute he says "So Han always shoots first!"

I was so proud!

How do you figure? The text says he MAY activate, which seems to me like he clicks over after his early move

Link to the review if any

Ya, it doesn't say he deactivates at all. It just says he may activate at the start of the ship phase.. it even says "like he was activated by a command token". Normal ships don't activate twice.

EDITED:
My bad, I see you were talking about moving last in the turn, then first in the next.. not twice a turn.

That's not what he said... He's simply pointing out that you can activate Han in the squadron phase of turn 1 and then again in the ship phase of turn 2 so essentially getting two volleys before the enemy moves.

Parenting done right, from one father to another, I say good job sir.

Thanks - I was completely missing that. Niiceee

Thinking a bit more about it he could activate at the start of a turn, during the squadron phase and as normal during a good old fashioned squadron command. Which means he could combine with Aldar Tallon quite nicely too.

He could move and shoot, then in the squadron phase shoot and move back to where he could do it all again next turn.

Which can work pretty nicely with Yavaris I would say. Position Han in the right spot, shoot twice and roll back the activation slider, then move during the squadron phase to rinse and repeat.

3 Black and 3 Blue dice isn't anything to sneeze on even for a ship.

Um, why are people acting like he activates twice per turn? It says he activates as though a command dial activated him, but he does it on his own free will. That means he deactivates after his ship-phase activation. He follows the rules for command dial activation, except he doesnt need a ship to actually trigger it

Its still way strong though since it gives him doublestrike on a target before they get a chance to respond.

I think Vineheart was referring to this, which is correct due to Adar tallon, but reads weirdly.

Could be.

Anyway, the Tallon yo-yo (new glossary entry?) works with any Rogue, and doesn't interact particularly well with Solo's special ability - except it allows a triple-tap if Tallon's ship was the last to activate.

Isn't the best combo you can do with his ability if he's in proper position : Yavaris-talon for two shots in ship phase, then reposition/one shot in squad phase, then reposition/one shot in next round ship phase before anything else moves (so 4 rolls in what amounts to a single round with two movements)? Basically the moving yavaris yo-yo with extra sauce, although you still aren't a bomber.
