X-Wing Browser Game / Android Game

By xstormtrooperx, in X-Wing

Hello,

this is one of my firsts posts in this forum. I hope this topic wasn´t discussed before!

I know that FFG has some Games out for Android (namely Elder Sign and Battle Lord Command). And I also know I would like to play X-Wing online - but not with the clunky Vassal as stage!

I would even pay for each ship type (2$ per ship type?). Wouldn´t that be cool? You just set your dials and after each player is ready the APP woult move the ships accordingly to their dials, in the correct order. You get to choose your

action, and then next ship.

That can´t be too hard to develop? Or I am missing something? Man, that would be a cool Browsergame or App-Game for a Tablet!

Any thoughts?

Wazzup!

From one new guy to another.

Personally I prefer the miniatures but I could see myself using it to try out lists before gaming.

This has actually been discussed, a LOT. But really, they would lose money in the long run. There is an unofficial Steam version too. But it has its flaws and possibly could be taken down by FFG.

Unless you bump, vassal is actually a lot less clunky than the tabletop version.

I think you're overlooking a lot of the more subtle aspects of the game. Your automated movement, for example, would require exceptions for things like Stay On Target, Juno Eclipse, Maneuvering Fins and the upcoming Hera. If you're relying a lot on heavy automation, then every new mechanic will add things that need to be accounted for.

I actually think it would broaden the player base by bringing in new fans. I got into magic due to giving it a go from a free Xbox download.

But as they say opinions are like (insert preferred term) we all have 'em!

I have often thought about and dream about iOS/android/PC/console version of both X-wing and armada. I don't think people who play in RL would quiet in fact it might bring more people to the game. One problem is I think EA has the rights to Star Wars Video games so there's that.

It's probably not likely since I don't think they have the in-house ability to develop it or the ability to scale it properly - but the Disney Infinity model at least gives some precedence to the idea of physical items tied to a digital environment via unique codes. I do think they would be required to partner with a developer - and since it would then become, essentially a video game, it is then outside the scope of their license technically speaking (see the hassle they have with Imperial Assault and Hasbro)

Also - welcome to the forums and search is your friend :)

Edit: Cubanboy ninj'd me - but that's ok since USA and Cuba are friends now. I'll stow my missiles.... ;)

If they can secure the rights to develop the game and publish it, it will be played.

See Magic the Gathering: Online, for example.

As much as I would LOVE an official and friendly computer/mobile/console version of X-wing.... it will never happen. EA owns the video game rights for Star Wars.

You might enjoy Steambirds though. As close as we're going to get. There is a mobile version as well.
