New player saying hello!

By Darkcloak, in X-Wing

Hello folks!

Recently picked up the old core set and started playing X-Wing. Guess who is cleaning the table? The wife.

We played twice with the quick rules and started a third match but she forfeited so we could play with the full rules. So now I'm 0-3! She caught on really quick and I'm so happy to finally find a game we can both enjoy I don't care if I ever beat her!

Anyways, that's me saying hello.

Cheers!

Welcome aboard to both you and your wife! X-wing is a great game. It's easy to learn, fun to play and tough to master. There's a pinned thread that has a lot of good info for new players. You should check it out.

Squad Builds and Rules Questions are great places to find suggestions for building squads and getting answers to any question you may have. I also recommend down loading the latest FAQ. This will be a good source of answers for questions about cards, pilots or abilities.

Again, welcome to the game!

Welcome welcome :)

I'm jealous already! (i'd love to get my other half involved, alas she doesn't seem keen to 3-0 me... :( )

As stoneface says the useful links pinned thread is great for getting some of the fundamentals cemented for you (the "earning your wings" movement guide thread in particular is excellent). Hope you enjoy the game even half as much as me... :D

Welcome mate! Before you know it, you will be swimming in models having massive epic battles! This game experience is the best :)

It is wonderful to hear that X-Wing is can be enjoyed not only with arch-rival-nemesis types, but with significant others as well. (And she's good at it

too! +++)

Just out of curiosity: in this clash of the spouses what are the preferred factions; or do youse* guys use them all equally?

*(Or yinz guys, according to preference.)

You fool of a took, now you dare not ever win or you'll be sleeping on the couch forever more!

Also hi and welcome to x-wing :)

Welcome to the game! Hope you enjoy it. You might find you need to add more cheap Imperials to the list before Rebels, since they tend to cost more. Well...if you go for cheap ships like I do, that is.

I say learn the basics with X-wings and Tie Fighters and then move on to the crazy stuff. It's always good to learn to fly an X-wing or Tie Fighter well enough before you pick up the crazy stuff. It gives you a good appreciation of all the different ships.

Guess who is cleaning the table? The wife.

And that's exactly right ... that's where she should be ... cleaning the table ... or making sandwiches ... wait, did i get that right?

It locks up after the last question, but I can tell you I'm mixed Californian/Southern accent :D

I really liked that quiz. I'm a hodge-podge of where I'm from, but lived longer in the South East. I do hate "y'all", though. Hate it. When down here, people say I have a yankee accent. When I go up north, I'm told I have a southern accent. Others say I sound just like I'm from Baltimore, but have never lived there.

Going through the quiz, it listed Greensboro, NC as one of my 3 cities I match. I actually went to college there. The other 2 were in Alabama, which really surprised me. I would not think the deep south as how I talk.

Y'all (contraction for You All) is soo much better then anything Yankees use

I cringe whenever I hear it. It's usually from someone with a terrible accent, as well. Occasionally my wife will use it when really tired or drunk. I hate it then. I purged it from my step-daughter's vocabulary and she thanks me to this day.

To me, "y'all" usually means you are ignorant, uneducated, and lower class.

Real word :P

But I'm the opposite, I cringe whenever I have You All, or You Guys etc. It makes me feel like they never learned contractions.

Also, don't confuse Y'all with Ya'll.

I can't hear it without hearing "y'all got a purty mouth", then "squeal piggy" follows.

It may be a real word, but the people who usually use it tend to be the lowest common denominator out of a group. I should really stop, though, or I'll get a warning for being insultive. It is purely my opinion. I have a strong opinion about it. I think if you live elsewhere than the south, than you can use it and get away with it more. It might even be considered "cute". Here in North Carolina, it's usually associated with Wal-mart, NASCAR, and trailer park.

Ah, here in Georgia, it is a commonplace word that everybody uses.

Cheers all around!

Looking forward to my first lgs match. Its a new shop so I wanna see if we can get enough players to sign up for some store events and hopefully make a regular thing of it.

Anyways... I'm gonna go post some list ideas and ask a bunch of questions!

Cheers and thanks for the warm welcome.

Y'all be cray :)

Try and run a demo on a night they have few other things going on. Get people interested and build a community from there.

Also... Where do I ask about painting and such?
