Putting My Money Where My Mouth Is, Glitter & Crack

By PoorEvader2Soon, in X-Wing

I have been praising crack shot and glitterstim since they were revealed. I was not able to make the first round of the SoCal qualifier locally in Bakersfield but registered for a first round automatic loss. It was do or die every game. So I brought glitterstim and crack shot. And... Luckily... Made it through 3 wins in a row to place third, and qualify.

These two upgrades are so powerful that we haven't really seen the way the meta will be shaped by them yet. Being able to guarantee(almost) perfect red dice and free evade focus all shooting phase changes the way ship resilience will be measured. Even inefficient squad builds become consistent damage machines with a few itterations of these cards. Once glitter & crack hit the meta the game will change in a big way.

Oh my gods. Crackshot is gooooood. Hell. I found out the hard way today.

behind you all the way, chief

anything that combats the tyranny of our fickle green overlords is a card worth keeping around!

have yet to explore the full possibilities of this baby, but as mentioned TL + stims is a legit combo as are PTL green squadron A-wings

w.e gets you fully modified and punching through soontir, or those last few crucial points on a fat dumbass PWT, is more than worth 1 point

Death to the PWT overlords!

I played Crackshot on Corran Horn the other day. Insane damage output, especially with a double tap...

I put Crackshot on Vader the other day with Title/ATC and it felt so good when I cancelled an evade to force 2 crits through!

Of course my poor missus was Palob with 4 hull and pulls 2 direct hits! She wasn't happy especially since I borrowed the upgrade of her lol.

I dream of cracking out C3PO and putting three crits on Han with Omega Ace.

Can you crackshot the C3PO addition?

Agreed! I also think it's significant that lower ps ept ships suit these upgrades so well. The classic aces have means of tricking action economy, guaranteeing evades, and otherwise making their damage spike, but may be less inclined to take crackshot, due to competition for that slot being so fierce in their builds.

Not so with green squadron pilot, black sun ace, black squadron pilot, etc - they were born for that one round of glory, and they need to stay cheap in order to earn their keep.

Crackshot is my favourite ordnance card :)

Well crackshot is indeed excellent. You buy 1 damage for 1 point in most cases, which is awesome.

Glitterstim gets of course better the more red and green you get to throw in one turn, but unlike Crackshot, it's not useful nearly 100% of the time. If you pop it and get no eyeballs its wasted.

So Crackshot & Glitterstim = 3 points

Predator = 3 points

Push The Limit = 3 points

C&G is a one (or two) turn wonder, the other two upgrades are not. Is it balanced with the other two abilities?

When you consider the massive alpha strike potential, I'm leaning towards yes...

Well, I get three crits, he guessed 0, is right (!), gets an evade, I remove the evade with Crack Shot, he takes three crits, giving him PS0, no actions and -1 firepower. That would be nice.

I think it is - one turn wonder CrackStim against the consistent damage of a Predator (PtL being very dependant on greens, so not quite as universal imo). I really think it comes down to how you want to fly them, which is great!

im not sure when 3po kicks in. It seems to me that you would add the evade result in the modify dice step. And since you have to use crack shot in your own modify step it happens first. so he would be able to use 3po after your opportunity to use crack shot.

not sure on this though, but it seems in line with the way other rulings have been going.

PSA: Don't put glitter or crack in your mouth, regardless of whose money purchased it. Immediate regrets.

And since you have to use crack shot in your own modify step it happens first.

That was actually changed a day later - now it happens at the compare results stage.

Like how the card read in the first place. lol

Glitterstim really shines with Lone Wolf too, and not just on N'dru. If you can utilize the positioning people will really regret attacking for a round considering you get reroll to use on blanks and then convert all eyes to evades, and it works on every defend. You'll also punch that much harder. What's really nice is that even if you have a lower PS you're getting enough defensive measures to help survive to your own buffed attack.

I'm sad Glitterstim is Scum only.

I'm not! :P

there are other sources for full mods apart from stim

ptl (Test pilot)

targeting astromech (potentially)

FCS

pilot abilities (such as Horton)

there's a fair bit of leeway when it comes to incorperating it, you just have to find a fully modded attack

I like Crackshot quite a bit, but "insane" damage output is a bit of an exaggeration. At best it adds one hit or crit to one result and then has to be discarded, which is great for a point, but double tap really doesn't matter for it.

to be fair, the jump from 0% damage to 33% on a ship (or "live" to "just dead") such as soontir is pretty amazing

not sure how that synergizes with double-tap, though

I'm fairly grumpy.

My buddy plays scum, and I know that I can't keep him from figuring this out for long.

I know that as soon as he sees it, I'm going to be hit with it.

There will be no defense. Only pain.

there's always arc-dodging :P

ah, arc-restricted upgrades. You are everything right about this game ^_^

Sure, but that's not exclusive to Corran and is target-dependent, as opposed being a variable based on the player's own ship selection.

It read to me like it was being played wrong but I wanted to give the poster the benefit of the doubt.
