OCTG2 plugin for AGOT LCG

By Gualdo, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

TITLES Problem. Eloooooi is asking on OCTGN2 developers forum how to implement this function. Meanwhile you can simply solve the issue creating a deck "TITLES" with ONLY titles cards.

You start the game. One player load Titles deck and put all the cards in tabel. Then you begin playing normally loading your house decks.

Hi, the sets :

• Brotherhood Without Banners

• Secrets of Oldtown

• Kings of the Storm

• Queen of Dragons

can't be installed by OCTGN, with the new update.

I have this error message :

'a game of thrones lcg - brotherhood without banners.o8s' an error occured during installation:
The set 'Brotherhood without Banners' is incompatible with the installed game version.
Game version: 1.0.1
Set made for version: 0.0.1.

I don't understand what is the problem. I see in the vulca file that the version is 1.0.1…

Thanks !

iGogol

P.S. : Sorry for my bad english. I'm french ! gui%C3%B1o.gif

I retried downloading from the first post Queen of Dragons:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=T58OBKY2

deleting my old plugin from Managed installed games and installing that one and it worked. Before testing also other sets you mention could you please retry?

Check that your octgn2 version is 0.9.4.0 and let me know!

It's ok. Thanks ! gui%C3%B1o.gif

Glad to hear that ;-)

The link for House of Talons is broken.

Cool, cheers!

@Gualdo: Any idea whether OCTGN will ever support a cloud-based system? I'm thinking about getting one of these Google Chrome laptops when they eventually come out, but the only problem is that I wouldn't be able to run OCTGN. (For home use, I can do without all the other apps I'd be missing.)

Also, a cloud-based system would be *awesome* for Apple users who don't want to install Windows.

Just wondering....

IIRC Jods wrote OCTGN in .net so it isn't likely that it would be portable to any other OS short of running a virtual copy of windows on the machine.

As Darksbane said, OCTGN2 is based on .NET framework so will not change for sure its structure. So A Microsoft system or a virtualization is needed indeed.

So, how do people meet up to play this thing? Is there an mIRC channel or something?

That's too bad. Hopefully with the newest round of internet browsers we'll get some standardization that will ultimately lead to more cloud-based systems in general. It'd be great if OCTGN and everything else were written in a way that didn't need all these extra apps.

I would guess that if anyone put together a browser based system to play GoT similar to how it is played in OCTGN that FFG would have pretty much no choice but to sue the pants off that person. OCTGN survives in part because of it's relative difficulty to setup and obscurity.

OCTGN2 survives thx to the fact that is modular and in 20 minutes you can create a module for a game. I don't know aht you mean with "setup and obscurity". Maybe we have not problems cause 99% of users use microsoft based computers and not other systems.

What I mean is that OCTGN keeps itself off the legal radar because it is not mainstream and it is daunting for a new user to have to track down the modules for the game, install them, and make sure everything is correct. It is not user friendly in the respect of users adding games to it and keeping it updated with the latest cards. Nor is it extremely easy for non-technical people to find other players and connect for games. It is a nice and well written program and Jods continues to do a great job with its development but because of some of these hurdles it isn't likely that FFG or any other game company is losing (m)any sales because of it. This actually works to OCTGNs advantage as game companies can be fairly safe in ignoring it instead of having to send lawyers knocking on Jods door and throwing out DCMA takedown requests for all the patches for it.

Understood your point now. And I agree. For sure a browser throne game will be illegal the second day it is published. I started making plugin with lackey but when I discovered OCTGN2 was a bless. Of course is not perfect (I think about users doesn't use microsoft product) but it is so easy to create a plugin and maintain it. It is so modular.

And it is I think 6-7 months that I get not disconnetted so every release it gets more reliable.

This is my expirience. Of course the day that there will be something better I'll move. But at the moment it satisfy my needes. We will see in the future how it evolves.

Jus noticed this, you didnt update the link to the new Game Deffinition in the first post ;)

should be updated ;-) let me know if there's something wrong!

Could someone help me? I just keep getting an error message. I would show it to you but I can't paste anything here.

without the error is difficult to help. Send me a screen at [email protected]

Putting this in the OCTGN bug tracker might help too

Occasionally, and worth a shot. I've had a hard time getting help with bugs there personally.
