What are the best packs?

By Felswrath, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

So I'm thinking of getting a couple ally/villian packs. What are your top two recomendations for a campain player without Twin Shadows?

Royal Guard Champion has an amazing Agenda set, and the Mission in Rebel Troopers allows you to get them as an ally without having to have Gideon on the team.

If you're willing to wait, I'd say Hired Guns and Wookie warriors as the only way to get them is from packs. Every other figure pack currently is already included in the game and expansion, so all you are getting is agenda cards and side missions.

There's no guarantee that those packs will not be using Twin Shadows tiles.

It really should say on the pack which expansions are required

A) If you're a campaign player: just save up and get Twin Shadows as it's great for a Campaign Play and will give you the most Campaign play for your buck.

B) The packs so far have only required the core game and state this on the packs. The only skirmish map with Twin Shadows tiles is the map that comes with that expansion. Scratch that, Boba's Skirmish mission does require Twin Shadows tiles, while R2-D2 & C3PO, and Kayn Somos skirmish maps only require a Core Set. On the campaign side, R2-D2 & C3PO, and Kayn Somos require Twin Shadows, while Boba does not. The other Wave 1 packs only require core set tiles.

The Campaign mission coming with Kayn Somos require Twin Shadows though and since the OP only play campaign, there is a precedent that the new packs might need tiles from Twin Shadows.

I agree that Twin Shadows is what will bring the most new stuff to the table with new missions, heroes and enemy group.

But if what you want is stop using tokens for allies and villains, I suggest letting the campaign dictate which pack to buy. If you need Solo in your next mission, then go buy Han Solo before the next game session. This way you can buy them sparingly and you're sure to use the new pack you just bought. The new Agenda decks and secondary missions are nice, but if it's your first campaign anyway, you'll have enough diversity with the agenda and missions coming with the base game. Then, when you'll start your next campaign, take all the new stuff you bought during the first and make your decks with it, this way it will diversify even more the second experience.

Thanks. This best explains the situation I'm in. So having just won Han's side mission as Imperials, I think I'll buy Chewbacca and IG-88 or Weiss.

I highly recommend that you do NOT buy Weiss.

1. His figure pack is one of the most expensive ones.

2. His agenda cards aren't that great.

3. With just the core game, you should already see Weiss in a modest amount of the story missions, also the fact that he cannot be deployed in indoor maps (or go into indoor tiles) massively limits his optional deployment opportunities.

I think it comes down to what side. Here's my top two favorites for each side.

Imperials:

IG-88

Boba Fett

Rebels:

Rebels Sabs

Han Solo
