Vassal Wave 1 send off tounrnament results

By clontroper5, in Star Wars: Armada

Clone, Lyraeus, if either want to get a game in, I'll be around in about 3 hours.

Doobleg vs Brian_Black is done!

415-251 doobleg's way for an 8-2 result

Brian-Black was the first player

The objective was Precision Strike

It was three Vics and nine squadrons vs three Vics and nine squadrons. The fighters got stuck in first, with Brian pulling first blood with his tie fighters, taking out a bomber and an advanced. I then took out the ties... but the capital ships were still TWO TURNS away from firing! Once the firing started, however, it was brutal and it was bloody. Fortunes and face-down cards turned again and again, and the game was called at the end of turn 5 (it was 2am for Brian, with the game having gone 4 1/2 hours to that point). As with many of these matches, the game was a lot closer than the score makes out, and it was one of tensest game of Armada I've ever played.

Thanks for the game, Brian! :D

BEAST MODE for a VSD kill (it was going to die anyways), then newly named BEAST Squadron ties up 4/5 of the Rhymer Ball.

RIP BEAST Squadron. You will be missed.

Thanks, man! Although I don't think that wins me anything. ;)

We have a fourth round that's pod-less, and I guess whoever has the best score at the end is the winner.

Anyway, we have to wait for all the OTHER pods to catch up before that. Get the lead out, ya lazy Hutts! :P

I will say that playing three games in two days was something of an ordeal, but one I'm very happy to have endured. Total of twelve hours played, and some of the most tense and intense gameplay I've had the good fortune to be a part of. Cheers to Pod 4: The Pod of Champions! :D

Hurry up you scruffy-looking nerf herders!

Hurry up you scruffy-looking nerf herders!

Pod 1

Lyraeus (1st player) vs JJs Juggernaut (2nd player)

1-9

MoV 203 (133-336)

Dangerous Territory

A few good game to my opponent. Once again Gunnery Teams proved their worth, and my squadrons were able to rip through all of my opponents with minimal losses. A few mistakes were made by both parties, and a few key rolls changed the outcome of the game in the last few turns.

Vlog: https://www.dropbox.com/s/tl6p9ws732k4plk/Vassal%20Tourny%202%20Pod%201%20vs%20Lyraeus.vsav?dl=0

Yea. . . Key Rolls and me forgetting tokens several turns in a row

Matt-Shadowlord (EMPIRE) vs Maturin (REBELS)

Fire lanes

End of turn 2: Matt 0 vs Maturin 153 Points

A risky opening gambit by Matt gives all the objectives to Maturin, who then manouvres very well (and let's be honest, rolls even better :D ) to counter the attempted out-flanking and removes a Gladiator with the final die of the final shot of the turn.

==THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK==

It is a dark time for the Rebellion. Although the "Order" Gladiator

has been destroyed and a lead of 153 to nothing has been established,

Imperial ships have driven the Rebel forces from their hidden base and pursued

them across the galaxy. The dreaded Imperial Starfleet finds a group of freedom fighters

led by Garm Bel Iblis that has established a new secret base in the remote asteroid fields. The

evil lord Darth Vader, obsessed with finding young Maturin, has dispatched thousands of Star Destroyers

into the far reaches of space….

Final result

Maturin 153 vs Matt-Shadowlord 580

After wiping out four Nebulons in a single turn, Screed cynically ordered his flagship Star Destroyer to hold fire with its rear cannons and allow the Salvation Nebulon to survive until the final moment of the battle, scoring victory points to please the Emperor. Then he concentrated all firepower on the fleeing ship, critically damaging it and destroying it at the very last moment.

(Maturin has a logfile to post later)

Edited by MattShadowlord

Yes, I'm afraid the Empire has triumphed. Many Bothans died to.....well, they just died. Along with all my beautiful Nebs. :D

Matt played that game excellently, serving me up some nice bait in the middle of the starfield. Little did I realize....IT WAS A TRAP!!!

Logfiles follow. I had some problems connecting so the first half of the game is split into two shorter logfiles, and I may not have captured the start of the game. Part B is where all the fireworks are, if you want to just cut to the chase. ;)

So, before the tournament started, I wrote up a After Pre-Action Report to gather my thoughts on the ships I'd be flying and the opponents I'd be facing. Now that the Pod round is over, I've posted it up on my blog. Feel free to look at it if you'd like. I'll be posting after-action reports for all the rounds I played in the coming days.

Great write-up, Biggs, and thanks for sharing. :)

I think your fleet build is great, and reading your written assessment on how to play it after our game gave me a feeling of deja vu. You definitely called my tactics right (keeping Motti back, leading with the ACM Vic), and I'd say I was very fortunate to come away with our 5-5 result.

Going second player instead of first was a consequence of my game against Chilligan in the previous tournament. He had set up two AFs in such a way that I, as first player, couldn't get a shot at as I walked into their overlapping fire zones. I didn't want to give that first-round-of-engagement advantage to you if I could help it, AND I wanted to see where your fighters went before committing my own. I also figured that going second would give me the best shot at intercepting your whales. Having seen the replay of your game against Brian_Black, it was always my intention to try and take down the rear frigate in your convoy. I figured I'd swap one of my ships for your straggler, and clean up your squadrons, giving me an advantage with my remaining bombers.

I honestly wasn't prepared for the co-ordinated firepower of those frigates, though. One Vic can take two or three Frigates firing at it for only so long, but when you can shoot TWO Vics at once with everyone... that's some scary poodoo right there. I also messed up my squadrons somewhat, running them over and putting them out of position... but this was also due to mixing up my two Vics in deployment.

X-Wings were the perfect choice of escort fighters, for all the reasons you stated. Clearly Darth wasn't in on the mix until late, but taking down my Tie Advanced squadrons let you land some key blows against my capital ships (cuuurse yooouuu BEEEAAAST!!!).

Wave 2 is going to change the playing field, but I think you and this fleet would still stand tall. :D

Mind if I edit that quote into the article?
