Sullust Practice Rounds

By Stasy, in Star Wars: Armada

Well since the football games I care about are over for the day, it's time to practice! Here's Game #1!

Rebel Fleet (298)

AFmkII B w/Garm, AP, Gun Team

AFmkII B w/ Ap, Gun Team

Neb B Esc w/ Salvation

A Wing

2x B Wing

Imperial Fleet (297)

VSD II w/ Screed, Intel Officer

VSD II w/ Intel Officer, XI7

Glad II w/ Demolisher, ACM, Engine Tech

Minefields, Empire 1st player (random objective drawn)

Turn 1

I decided to play the Empire in a don't care about your mines formation. I figured I'd hit the station and engineer on the same turn. I played the Rebels to run parallel early to the oncoming forces.

Turn 2

That mine decided to hit hard. Two face down cards. But then I have an asteroid coming up in the lead AF. Prepare for impact! Some serious fire about to go down next turn.

Turn 3

I like Intel Officer a lot. Just bones the AF from using the redirect as intended. But the AF's get some dual arc shots where the Imperals don't. The Glad is hoping to feast. A lot of dice and cover fire from its big sister.

Turn 4

Big sister slams into the rear of the wounded Glad for the kill shot. D'oh! A and B Wings doing their part. But not before taking out the lead AF.

Turn 5

Well. The VSD will survive... Until it moves off the board on turn 6. Too much health to blow up.

Called it once I realized nothing else would happen at the end of turn 5. Rebel victory 297-85

I ran another training session for new players at my local store today. As is typical the novice rebels made the mistake of rushing headlong in the Imperial forces and the novice Imperial player tabled him. It was fun and both learned from the experience.

Oh, I explained how the two fleets that they ran were inteneded to be played. But that was mostly in the after game critique. They both had fun and leaned that AF2's should not charge directly at GSD and VSD especially when the AF2s are carrier builds. I have to be careful just how much tactical advice I give during training games since I don't want people to think I am playing favorites.

It will be refreshing to referee the Massing at Sullust. I can watch and enjoy and offer no advice to anyone. I will likely be doing some lending since several of the players around here will have a hard time scraping up 300 points for a fleet.

Its like running a Gladiator school around here. "Now I have taught you all how to win my children. Now go forth and kill each other."
