Snowtroopers and Habitat

By Bomba101, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Hi, newbie here

So I was just looking at the Return to Hoth expansion and I noticed that Snowtroopers do not have a habitat restriction on them. I understand Habitat is a restriction used for species or creatures that cannot even survive on other terrains, but it gave me two questions on how Habitat might work.

First: Will Snowtroopers have some restriction on them that prevents them from being used on anything but snow? Probably not, it would just be a stupid tactic as they are designed for snow, but I am still curious. The Return to Hoth announcement is just a first draft, but chances are it will be final. I wonder how that Environmental Gear ability is going to work, it never specifies snow.

Second: Does Habitat prevent a unit from entering other terrains? The Twin Shadows box has a mission called Canyon Run. It is a blend of desert and imperial tiles and contains Tusken Raiders as a starting group. Habitat says in the Twin Shadows rulebook that as long as there is one tile of that terrain that unit can be added. Just to clarify, because it doesn't say if you can switch terrains, can my tusken raiders enter the imperial terrain on the map or are they forces to remain in an exterior desert space?

Like I said, newbie here, and I know these are stupid questions

Habitat is only applicable in campaign games.

It doesn't stop a Tusken from entering an indoor space, for example.

it only means you can only deploy a tusken if there is at least one desert tile on the map.

I was thinking that possibly the reason they don't have the habit restriction is due to a mission or missions which involve say the inside of Echo Base, which would technically be considered as a indoor tile rather than a Snow tile. It wouldn't make much sense if you couldn't use them there just because there wasn't a Snow tile after all.

If it was only one mission, I expect the Hoth campaign book would simply state an exception to the rule. There was no habitat on the heavies, and we all know they're sand troopers, I doubt there will be one on scout troopers when we get them too. I think they're just giving us attack options for the grunts.

Thank you all for the clarification

While the heavies resemble sandtroopers, they are not specifically sand troopers are they? There is no reason why scout troopers could only be in forests (we see e-web engineers in spaceship maps don't we. Snow troopers are specfically for cold environments. While I don't think FFG will force this, I think it would be nice. That was one thing I hated about SWMs, seeing snowtroopers in Mos Eisley.

P.S. Yes, I know I'm a geek and most people wouldn't mind this, but it bugs me.

We already have Tusken Raiders fighting alongside stormtroopers. Snowtroopers on non-cold planets seems less odd to me than that.

Honestly having someone not specialised for cold weather on Hoth is less realistic than having snowtroopers off it. Regardless of that I plan on just calling them "Hazard troopers" since it's sensible that the Empire would have a more general environmental protection gear.

STORMIES in every environ!!!!
