Hello fellow pilots...
5 Question on TFA Rules
1) Yes, the point of origin for measuring ranges is almost always a corner of the attacking ship's base, unless the two ships happen to have parallel sides with each other, in which case you can choose any point on that side you like.
2) I think so, but I'm not sure.
3) Yes, you can drop a bomb overlapping an obstacle, or even another bomb. Nothing changes - the bomb lands where it normally would and detonates when it normally would. You didn't find any rules for it because there aren't any special rules for it.
4) No, Palpatine follows the standard rules for modifying dice, so he must be used during the "modify attack dice" step if it's a friendly ship attacking, or the "modify defense dice" step if it's a friendly ship defending.
5) I don't think you can modify or reroll added results (such as the crit from Advanced Targeting Computer), but I'm not absolutely certain on this.
1) Range is simply measured from the closest point to the closest point. That often, but not always, means corner to corner.
2) No, the argument just changes a little.
3) Nothing special happens, although you probably don't want to make a habit of dropping bombs on obstacles (because players are already inclined to avoid them).
4) There may eventually be an FAQ on this, but as the rules stand, if the Emperor modifies attack or defense dice, it has to be done in the appropriate step of the combat phase.
5) I would trust the Rules Reference on this point right now.
The Rules Reference Guide always trumps the Learn to Play Guide.
#5 is tricky because normally the FAQ would trump the rules reference. However, that line in the FAQ is older than the Rules Reference Guide so it's quite possible that the Rules Reference is correct in this case. I seem to remember somebody in another thread submitting to FFG for clarification, but I'm not sure they ever heard back...

Can you point me to a source for this? It was true in the old rule book, but I have not seen anything relevant in the new Rules Reference.

In the Modify Attack Dice step, there's a substep called Card Ability:
Card Ability: The attacker can resolve a card ability that modifies attack dice and that he has not already resolved during this attack.
Changing a die result is definitely a modification (page 13), and Palpatine's effect is definitely a card ability, so if you're using him to modify attack dice that's when you do it. The same story applies to modifying defense dice.
aretargetSo basically the point of origin (on the attacker’s base) for measuring attack range would almost always be a corner of the attacking ship’s base outside it’s firing arc?
EDIT: Generalized the phrasing better.

The way the new Rules Reference is written, it does look like you always use the closest corner of the attacking ship (possible exception: parallel bases), even if you're firing a weapon that's restricted to a firing arc that doesn't quite reach that corner. You are still restricted to the closest target point within your firing arc, though. Those are the cases where you won't be measuring corner-to-corner.So basically the point of origin (on the attacker’s base) for measuring attack range would almost always be a corner of the attacking ship’s base outside it’s firing arc?
If your corner is pointing at the middle of the opponent's front, for instance, the middle is closer than either of their corners.
Which is how Vassal measures, since theres no difference in fire arc range and target lock range...
