Wing Commander?

By Swusn, in Star Wars: Armada

I've noticed a large disparity in between the amount of anti squadron upgrades/ships and the current usefulness level of squadrons. This leads me to beleive that there is still something coming that will vastly improve the value of squadrons in Wave two. I am assuming that there might be some upgrades that we have not seen yet.

Looking at the teaser images for both the ISD and MC80 it looks like they have an upgrade card that says "Wing C....." I know this is a huge assumption but I have to beleive that cards full title is "Wing Commander" and that it gives a very good boost to squadron usefulness. The only thing I do not know is what does it do?

What would this card be able to do that would make squadron threatening enough that wave two needed so much anti fighter upgrades/ships?

I think we will find out Wednesday

The fun part is speculating :) What is your best guess?

Well likely it could be an officer card that gives bonuses for activating several squadrons at one time.

A wing Commander in the US Navy is the captain or 1 star Admiral who oversees all the squadrons in one battlegroup. So 7 squadrons on a carrier all under 1 guy.

He could all so allow for the launching of squadrons

I was hoping for something like a super Adar Tallon that would allow you to reset all the activation sliders of squadrons activated by that ship but I doubt a named unique card would be less powerful than a generic upgrade. expanded hangars adds a squadron to your squadron value so I doubt it would do that.

I'm so tingly with expectation. I really want something that makes including squadrons a no brainer.

It could give you a generic ability

It could regenerate the health of squadrons touching the base of the ship at the end of the squadron phase?

could also allow a re-roll to anti ship shooting to activated squadrons

Well, we know that the scum and villain squadrons are at bay, and from what has been revealed so far they seem to pack a punch. I am also not so sure if the AS upgrades and ships are as superior as you make them sound. Regarding upgrades we have seen cluster bombs and quad turrets, which both seem to be situational at best. AS fire from caps is 2 black at max, thats 1,5 damage average per turn, and only at close range. 2 Blue is better range, less average damage.. If you are gnawing on 5/6hp squadrons chances are pretty good that you are still chewing when the bombers already finished most of their job..

Not saying that AS needs a buff,I like the fact that you need to bring interceptors to counter bomber heavy lists. Releasing true flag frigattes that can swipe entire swarms of squadrons would completely break the squadron phase and robb them of their meaning.

But so far, I dont see the crisis with squadrons as they proof valuable in my games, even though they are by no means a no-brainer or auto-include. Once guys like Boba will back up my bombers I am pretty confident that we will see a rebirth of elaborated squadron wings in the meta, as there will be so many more synergies to use between caps and their squadrons.

Wing commander: tap this card and activate all squadrons in command range. 25 points. only one per force. :D

I think that would go a long way to put fighters in the power block they should be.

and make taking out the flag ship very High on the list of things to do.

Wing Commander: when activating Luke Skywalker, re-roll any dice up to 5 times when attacking Kilrathi. During the status phase, sacrifice Luke to destroy Kilrah.

Wing commander

Friendly squadrons at range 2 of this ship can either move and shoot during the squadron phase

Hrmn. Wing commander. Tap to release bad acting live action movie.....

Lol really though. Would be neat to have someone or a squadron upgrade that gives them rogue.

That would be nice, but should be expensive.

I would like to see a way for Imps to activate more TIE fighters. As it is, the MC-80 can activate 65 points of X-Wing, while the ISD can only do 40 points of TIEs - fighter on fighter is an inherently losing battle for Imps v. Rebels!

I have money on it being Wing Captain who is 6 points and let's you change your dial to a squadron command.

As Lyraeus pointed out in the R&V thread, it could be the straight equivalent to Engineering Captain, and let you change your command dial to Squadron each turn. Which would be awesome for a carrier. Spam repairs and maneuvers, change to Squadron when required. Neat.

Thread on the board where cards were spoiled today says there's indeed another captain but for the navigate command, not squadrons. Could be this.

Looks like Wing Captain is a strong possibility.

Ok, now that we think we know what "Wing Captain" Might be what do you think the "Independence" title for the MC80 does? Looks like it might effect the speed of squadrons activate with a squadron command. I see the word "attack" in there as well though.

Maybe increases speed as long as they do not attack? Does not seem to useful with such a slow ship.

It was mentioned earlier that it gives them speed 4 as long as they do not attack. Not great, but it can help get B-Wings where they need to be.
