Substitute for the Doom Shuttle

As the topic title suggests, I am looking for a substitute for the Doom Shuttle in this particular title:

Whisper (32)

  • Veteran Instincts (1)
  • Sensor Jammer (4)
  • Recon Specialist (3)
  • Advanced Cloaking Device (4)

Carnor Jax (26)

  • Push the limit (3)
  • Autothrusters

Doomshuttle (24)

Total: 99 points.

The problem I have with the shuttle, is that even though the first two or three rounds of engagements are fine, the shuttle becomes a liability in the following, probably due to my inability to fly the shuttle well. Thus I am looking for something to substitute it, and I have thought of the following:

schimitar squadron pilot (16)

  • Cluster missiles
  • Extra munitions

or:

Tempest squadron pilot

  • Title
  • Proton Rockets
  • Accuracy corrector

I am open to all suggestions, however I would like to maintain Jax and Whisper. I could downgrade the recon specialist to fill in a stealth device or a hull upgrade to Jax to make him more durable.

Omega Leader + PTL?

Don't underestimate the usefulness to you or annoyance to your opponent of two Academy Pilots...

Would you use Omega Leader as a flanker then? Or escorting either Jax or Whisper?

The problem is that Omega Leader is essentially another flanker who doesn't want to go head-to-head with another enemy.

A TIE/fo is tougher than a regular TIE fighter, but that's not the same as 'tough'...

The shuttle is a bit of a brick. If you're wanting reliable damage, the accuracy corrector tempest is nice, and it's a lot more forgiving manouvrability wise than either a bomber or a shuttle.

Gives you some ion control options as well as unblockable damage potential.

TIE Punisher with AC.

Avenger Squadron Interceptor with AT for 22 points. Guarantees the initiative bid pretty much unless your opponent is flying a novelty list like 86 double Phantom, which no one does anymore.

Tempest Squadron with AC and TIE MK II. Same point cost as the Avenger with AT.

A 22 point filler will allow you to add a Targeting Computer to Carnor. A 21 point ship like a generic Lambda or AC Tempest allows a 3 point mod on Carnor and the 1 point initiative bid.

If you forgo the initiative bid and go for a 25 point ship you have room for a generic Phantom, Punisher with AC and TIE MK II (card helps the thing a lot actually), PtL Royal Guard, etc.

Oh yeah, and Captain Yorr. PtL out of a K-turn with Carnor.
