Keyan / T-70 / Farrell

By Wilsonia, in X-Wing Squad Lists

A list I want to test is a B-Wing, T-70, and A-Wing. The list I have drawn up looks like:

-"Blue Ace"

BB-8

Autothrusters

-Keyan Farlander

Push the Limit

Heavy Laser Cannon

Fire-Control System

-Jake Farrell

Push the Limit

Veteran Instincts

A-Wing Test Pilot

Chardaan Refit

Autothrusters

So pretty much two arc dodgers and a jouster. Haven't flown this list yet, but I like the look of it. Each ship is capable of taking multiple actions a turn and they all maneuver pretty well for their respective ships. Thoughts?

I made a similar build

-"Red Squadron Veteran"

Marksmanship

R2-D2

Experimental Interface

-Keyan Farlander

Opportunist

-Jake Farrell

Push the Limit

A-Wing Test Pilot

Chardaan Refit

Autothrusters

Predator

Keyan just sits back and rolls 4 or 5 dices

I've found that Farlander works best when he's not the centre of attention. You want to fly him with something that makes the opponent think twice about who he wants to go after first, because otherwise Farlander gets quickly shown up for how defensively weak he is.

I say this because, in this squad, your opponent has no other option but to kill Farlander first. He's your hardest hitting, most expensive ship, and has no more durability than your average Blue Squadron Pilot. If I'm your opponent, I'm going to throw everything at him and then happily take whatever's left against Jake and Blue Ace.

To counter that, I would drop Farlander's HLC and use the 7 points to upgrade Blue Ace to Poe and give him PtL. Farlander is still your hardest hitter, but if the opponent goes for him first they have to deal with a hyper-mobile, nigh-unblockable, triple-action Poe afterwards. If they go for Poe first, they got shot up by PtL Farlander. And all the while Jake is running around the edges making a nuisance of himself.

I was thinking that exact same thing after having flown the list. It's hard to put that many points into a B-Wing just to have it blown off the table after a few turns. "Blue Ace" was pretty sweet, and I love his pilot ability, but his lower pilot skill means you won't really be able to use his ability to the fullest to arc dodge what you need to anyway. So yeah, I think I'm dropping HLC on Keyan, and upgrading "Blue Ace" to Poe. Any thoughts on the upgrades on Keyan? PtL and FCS seem fine without the HLC.

Also, how Is Opportunist on Keyan? Seems pretty sweet. Is PtL a better stress enabler?

Adv Sensor + Stay on Target is the most points I think I'd put into Keyan. His lateral movement ends up offsetting the B's terrible speed.

Adv Sensor Barrel Roll or TL, stress with SoT to get the best position, fire and remove your stress. If you really want to ensure he always has a shot take 2 speed maneuvers so you can K-turn.

Adv Sensors + Stay on Target is pretty slick on Keyan. Will definitely try that out, and report back.

As for Poe, what upgrades do you think work best? I think either BB-8 or R2, PtL, and thrusters is pretty solid. Any torps viable with him?

Torps aren't really viable on him, no, if only for the fact that he starts getting too expensive.

My preferred Poe build is R5-P9, Predator, & Autothrusters, especially when he's paired with a more aggressive wingman like Wedge (who usually gets BB-8 first, anyway) or Farlander. More of a main battle tank than an arc-dodger, but the combination of consistent offence and defence makes him a great finisher after the other ace has wreaked havoc.

A variant of the Jake/Keyan/Blue Ace list...

Jake (Push the Limit, test pilot, Veteran Instincts, Proton Rockets, Autothrusters)

Keyan (Outmaneuver, Fire-Control System)

Blue Ace (BB-8, Autothrusters)

99 points

I have yet to try Advanced Sensors + Stay on Target on Keyan, but it seems very good indeed.

Opportunist is good, the only fall back is that you need him to shoot after everyone else so they can pull the evade/ focus tokens and he can us opportunist and use the stress to his advantage.

PTL us great because you are guaranteed the stress he needs.

but being in range 1 and with target lock and while stressed rolling 5 dice is so nice.
