2nd K-Wing revelation of the day.

Navigator + SLAM.

  • In the world I live in on the SLAM debate (that it does not count as revealing a maneuver, so no bomb-dropping), using Navigator to change your speed for the executed maneuver allows full access of your dial for SLAM.
  • In the world in which I do not live on the SLAM debate (that the article was correct in dropping the bomb before SLAMing, and therefore that SLAM counts as revealing a maneuver), you wouldn't even need to alter your movespeed, manipulating the speed of the SLAM directly.

EITHER WAY, Navigator gives a SLAMing K-Wing the greatest amount of activation-phase mobility in the game!

Considering that Advanced SLAM exists for bomb-dropping, this is hugely relevant.

I don't think navigator is compatible since when you slam you are not revealing a maneuver.

... You know, that's actually a pretty good point.

Less relevant to a PS2 bomb-dropper, but it might find a use on Miranda, if her crew slot wasn't already hogged by shiny metal droids. :)

Navigator says When You Reveal Your Dial. SLAM isn't a dial reveal.

While you could use Navigator to change your initial maneuver (therefore changing the speed of your SLAM), you couldn't use it on the SLAM move.

Correct.

That's what he said.

And it's still pretty sweet.

That's what he said.

And it's pretty awesome, even if you can't fine-tune to the level of a 2+1 or whatever.

Like I said: "The world I live in".

using Navigator to change your speed for the executed maneuver allows full access of your dial for SLAM.

Given that SLAM's maneuver is executed, there are two ways to read this line. I chose the wrong one.

What if you simply used Intel Agent to gain omniscience and slammed in front of things and brake checked like a ****** bag?

You can really only gain anything from Navigator if you have high PS and can see where everything else has moved already. So that means Miranda pretty much.

Or both. Have Intel Agent out there on another ship and still give Miranda/Esege your Navigator so you can take full advantage of movement options (even against, say, Soontir, Wedge, VI Ten Numb, other PS10s).

While not about the K-Wing, I did notice that navigator also goes well with the YV-666 and maneuvering fins.

Dial in a 3 turn and either switch it to a 2 turn with navigator, or use finds to change it to a 3 bank and then pick whichever bank you want with navigator.

I would say it's better on a YV as you have 3 crew slots.

On the K it looks awesome, but giving the one Crew slot to a navigator also means you don't have recon spec or C3-PO.

I guess this is a good option if you want to use your K-Wing mostly as a bomber. So you would not deal your danage with shots but rather with carefully placed Mines and bombs, and alter your movements and Slams to be precise and arc-dodge where possible.

Huh, I hadn't even considered that as an option. Time to take another look at bomber K-Wings...

The only issue I have with Navigator is kind of the same problem with Stay on Target: it becomes dramatically more useful at higher Pilot Skill, but as you go up in PS you generally want to exploit more potent upgrades, or at least things that more directly impact your offensive consistency. Esege and Miranda have much better options, even though precision bombing is easier with a Navigator. You might use Navigator a handful of times in a match, tops, whereas a Recon Specialist or R2-D2 can trigger pretty consistently throughout the fight. As-is, I'm already using my crew slot to supplement the K-Wing's lack of EPT, which is a balanced situation but requires efficient investment.
