So Massing at Sullust will probably be our last big chance to come to terms with the fighters vs no fighters debate for Wave 1 at least. Wave 2 will cause a big enough shakeup that it'll be til December at least, since we still don't have an actual release date, to know whether squadrons will be useful or not.
SO. What I propose is for us to attempt to keep track of all the MaS events we go to, and try to get an overall picture. Gencon did gives us some data, but we didn't have a complete record, and no one was really prepared for the "Gencon Special"
Therefore I'll ever-so-humbly volunteer to sift through any data people submit to me, so if either TO's could get complete player lists with your top 4/8 players, or if players can get those from their TO's and then get them to me. I'd much appreciate it. I'll be at 2 events myself, but would like at least a dozen or so from different regions to get a better data spread.
I just think it'd be nice to confirm/deny the Edsel-Blerg and Motti Scales before we blow it all up with Wave 2.
We can also use this to see how many of each ship, the type, what upgrades and what squadrons are used and which ones are successful.
Thanks in advance.
Keeping records for Massing at Sullust.
Sounds good. I an TO for 2 events, and Mikael Hasselstein is TO for another event so we shall see
So that's at least 5 events we'll have records for.
3 from Portland. I will try and get the other 2 or at least in for for the other 2 going on that weekend.
I'm going to attend one in Richmond Virginia, and can get the lists for the other Richmond event.
This is a great idea. I'll try to speak to our TO about tracking this, too (Ashburn, VA).
As a lover of data, I very much applaud this.
I was going to be compiling the data anyway, simply as part of my journalistic duty of providing the galaxy with the news that loyal citizens need (and are required) to know.
I essentially already have some of this data for some tournaments already on HNN if you know how to look for it. However, that data is not systematically organized.
I think it would be awesome if someone wanted to develop a database format for tournament results. If we wanted to build something like List Juggler for Armada, I'd be happy to provide the hosting and help out a little with the development, but my web-building skills are modest and my time constrained.
Ideally, it would also need a database format for build lists. Since some formats for that already exist because we have apps and programs that do so, it would just be a matter of deciphering the code - or being given the code book by a list-builder developer. In X-Wing Voidstate seem to be the common currency, which helps with uploading data to List Juggler.
I'll make another post Friday Oct 2 morning, just in case this one gets lost. Then I'll reserve a cpl posts for the results.
I'd say even something as simple as an Excel spreadsheet can be data crunched reasonably.
I'll ask the TO's at the tournaments I attended to get some info. But I can't promise much past the standings sheet at the end.
Top 8 w/lists should fine.
I am the TO for the Oklahoma City event. I will try to keep copies of all the fleet builds and send you some info as soon as I can afterwards. Or course I am in the middle of buying a new home right now so I have a slightly higher than normal level of chaos to content with.

I'm truly excited to see how many people show at the ones I attend. The first two have FB pages, and look like 9-14 people confirmed. The third has none, but last time I went there for a casual event ended up being 7 of us.
I'm totally scoring an ISD card!!! ![]()
Ours have about 7-8 people 'going' each. Unfortunately, some people have declared themselves as 'going' to overlapping events on our Facebook group. Those include myself, but as I created the Facebook events in question, I can't take myself off the list of attendees.
Another problem is that in my experience, many more people declare themselves to be going than tend to show up.
I just hope the prizes bring more people out than normal.
Ill gather the lists from the 3 Events in Denmark im attending then. Although our meta seems a bit more Squadron heavy than the rest of the world.

Given that FFG hasn't given it the support that you see at the x-wing level, I think turnout will be ok.
Still a little perplexed that they haven't listed stores that are hosting the event yet. If I didn't know any local stores, but had one that was an hour away or more, I would go if I knew the event was going on.

What sort of support do you see at X-Wing that we haven't seen for Armada?
It seems to me that the prize support for Armada in much greater than the last time that they did a similar special release tournament for X-Wing, which was Imdaar Alpha, over a year ago. For that one, prize support was 4 expansions, each worth $15 MSRP. So, $60 worth of stuff.
For Sullust, we're getting 2x$20, 1x$30, 1x$40, and 1x$50, which totals to $160 MSRP. Sure, the FLGSs will be paying for those, though I heard (can't remember where) the kits were $90.
So, it seems like FFG is really going all out to make this happen for us.
It's $90 for the stores. My one point of concern is that because this a much more expensive event for the stores, and from what I've heard from FLGS owners about how stringent the date restrictions are. Basically they've been told that if they ordered a kit and are receiving one, if the do not run the event on the 2nd-4th for any reason short of biblical, they'll be blacklisted from further FFG events. We have 2 stores running events on the same day, and its further compounded by roughly half of our regular player base being unable to attend any events on that day.

The stores in my area are charging $20 per participant. So, if 4.5 participants show up, they'll break even.
Honestly, if I could have had more of a hand in the way it played out, I would have advocated for just three area stores doing the events, so that the community would not have been split. However, schedules being what they are, and each store making an autonomous decision on when to host, meant that we have 5 stores hosting events, and 2+2 overlapping events.
I have the good fortune to be TOing the one event that doesn't have an overlap. (I may have bullied Lyraeus from having one of his events on the Sunday rather than the Friday.) Still, because I have to get off work, as do most working people, I'm having to start the event in the late afternoon and run it into the night.
Not ideal.
(Now, I'd obviously rather be in my shoes than the poor folks in the gaming hinterland, who don't get any events or just one event, so I'm not complaining too much. Also, I stand a greater chance of going home with some of the prizes this way.)
I have some friction between 2 of the stores locally, plus the usual shenanigans from players who don't/won't play at one of the stores for whatever silly reason. I really wish they'd let us run the next weekend or something to keep conflicts down. I get the want to build hype, but it seems a little self defeating if they lock us into a very narrow window that causes conflict. And if a store promises $15 buy in and only 4 people show up, it just got burned. My stores are going for $10 entry, and i'm worried we're going to have 7-8 at best on Saturday.
Edited by Bipolar PotterThese events don't necessarily need to break even for the stores. Part of the point of these is to showcase the game to people walking by, especially if the event is starting early enough for people to see the final battle. Plus there's a good chance products going to move in preparation for the event, so there's more at work than simply meeting a 90$ quota.
True enough, but I TO most of the local tourneys, and i get cranky store owners up my ass when we have low turnout.
I'm jealous of the over-saturation problems you guys have.
But I agree... I suspect it's easier to draw numbers for X Wing than Armada, leading to some ticked off store owners for low turnout. I do hope all stores that run it have reasonable turnouts. 8 people for a game this young probably is a ok reaction, especially when you have competing events within an hour or so of each other.

All 5 stores in the area are charging $20. Expensive but it means that the stores break even easier, or get close.
I am going to be so tired during this event. . . Being TO for 2 of these. . . Bleh. . .
I was not bullied. I was just given an option that was logically good.
Okay, I'm bumping/necroing this thread in order to get it on more people's mental maps that we're hungry for data.
I think with stmack having already taken the initiative, it'd be good for us to give him the support to expand the Miniranker. It's pretty easy to add data to.
While my data-loving self would like MOAR data that is also analyzable, this may be sufficient.
