What is the outcome of TWO 4x TLT lists going at it?

By Plainsman, in X-Wing

So with all the chatter about TLT lists, what will happen when two of them meet up? If they are a "thing" it will eventually happen in tournies, etc.

Thoughts!

Utter boredom as it devolves into rolling dice to decide the winner.

Barring a few variations I imagine it will all come down to red dice and player skill. With 4TLTs there really is no room for customisation with each ship coming in at 24 points. My money is on syndicate thugs with unhinged astromechs.

I think if one side can get all 4 ships on a single target the first turn without taking 4 volleys in return they probably win. 4 ship's worth of fire probably kills a Y-wing, if you do that while retaining all your ships for the next round, you can snowball it.

How do you do this? Guessing dials right.

That is sort of the lucky part, not dice. Whoever guesses right wins that opening exchange, and probably the game. I think a 4xTLT mirror match by top players will involve a lot of moving around asteroids, trying to work the other squad into a turn where they can't concentrate fire effectively, then jumping the squad to take advantage of that.

I'd agree that there is a certain amount of luck in guessing dials but it also comes down to the skill of evaluating your opponents options and choosing correctly. With TLT war I think obstacles and deployment will also be important. God I hope we don't see too much of this, hopefully there are enough hard counters that will keep TLTs a good but not mandatory choice.

Yes, I agree fully.

A-wings, interceptors, starvipers, aggressors and soon the TAP all can use Autothrusters.

The t-70 has it a little tougher on two dice but it's got six hit points.

Hard counters to tlt already exist.

Sensor Jammers are also a nice counter, if not quite as effective on their own as Autothrusters. I'm absolutely toying with trying out an E-Wing with Sensor Jammers and Lone Wolf to see how it'd work out against em'.

But seriously: SJ+auto IGs and Virago StarVipers give zero **** about TLTs.

Mirror match very likely the player that wins roll off for initivative will win, they have a very good chance of removing one of their opponent ships before it shoots, and it will snowball from there. We may see players leaving off one or more astromechs to get initivative in mirror matches. Going to be a very common build in some areas.

They can't remove a ship before it shoots. Simultaneous fire.

Instead of the game, just flip a coin

I guess 4x HWK TLT with Z-95 isn't being taken. Or intelligence agents. Kinda silly I guess, unhinged Thugs would probably be best option for 4 TLT.

Like any mirror match with near exact lists it all comes down to player skill and just a bit of luck, even if Old Ben says there no such thing as luck. Between two great players this kind of match may be awesome to watch.

Yahtzee!

Exactly this, and I believe it's very telling about what such a list offers to the game. It's actually more boring than watching two Fat Han lists face each other, so I suppose that's some sort of accomplishment.

I say people falling asleep and dice breaking

Itight be boring, but I really only think it will be if the players aren't quite good with their lists. I think there will be a lot of interesting pre-merge positioning to get the best concentrated fire on the other squad.

Could be Torkil + 3 Thugs is better in the Mirror match. He isn't as tough as the others, but but reducing an opposing TLT to PS0 he'll give you a chance to remove one of them before it shoots. This makes him dangerous, so you can be pretty sure he'll be a target, which opens up for biggsing shenanigangs. Not exactly sure how to exploit it, but I guess it'd involve having him skirt around the edges while the Ys close in.

The one with BTL-A4 wins.

it's the same exact thing as Han v Han only now you can actually outplay the opponent by limiting the firepower he can pour onto one ship, forcing a spread of damage

Han still is and has always been far worse

Lots of little baby TLTs result from a TLT orgy.

Dice. Short answers, something something questions.

I'm thinking off the cuff here, but wouldn't it be beneficial to try to close the gap behind or out of arc of the other TLT ships? If I can get a shot while they can't, that's bonus. Even better is if I happen to land 3 damage, or a disabling crit, which outpaces the TLT. How do you get out of arc? You'll need one ship on the flank, and you'll need to pull a surprise move with one of your other ships to block their approach, so they can't fully turn to face the flanker.

I think there's potential there. I don't know who's better at playing that game; Unhinged Thugs or R2 Golds. Thoughts?

TLT Y-wings are asexual

you're talking about when a daddie Phantom and a mommy Ghost love each other very much, a free TLT shot is born per turn :P

Y-wings bud like jelly fish everyone knows that.

Have you ever watched a TIE Swarm vs TIE Swarm. That is just as, if not more, a dice dependent matchup. At least with the Y-wings, things are likely to be removed in a timely fashion. And maneuvering does play a big part in that.
