Mind the Gap: Finding Your Comfort Zone with 4xTLT

By randolph, in X-Wing

There is 1 problem with your graphics. You didn't add the normal firing arc of the ships. Because even if there is a donut hole at R1, they still can shoot with 3 dices in front arc.

So just don't blindly do a head-to-head run on them.

Mate, you've missed the entire point of this thread.

So, you're saying the point of this thread, after spending all that time elucidating where the TLT firing arcs overlap to provide guidance on where to attack, is to run straight into the teeth of the formation rather than coming in at the side which would not only minimize the TLT coverage, but remove the primary weapon attacks?

Omg i hope youre trolling. Let's just ignore what you just implied.

Here's a hint: If you take the time to create these good looking graphs of TLT coverage/deadzones they should reflect the actual areas where you get shot.

Being as they are now they're quite misleading.

Plus, there is the fact that you are trying to hit the dead zones of moving targets. And the "dead zones" in many cases are too small to actually fit a small base, let alone actually hit with the finite number of moves on your dial, even with boost, barrel roll, Daredevil shenanigans (all of which detract from offensive and defensive power unless you have Outmaneuver... against Y-Wings).

Because of the way the diagrams are done, having any part of your ship in the dead zone means you're immune to TLT fire (because it means some part of your base is at Range 1 of every TLT).

As for hitting moving targets... isn't that kind of what this game is about?

I'm not a particularly visual thinker, but I find it fairly easy to picture firing arcs. So for me, at least, the extra overlay wouldn't add much, and I think it might risk some visual distraction in a set of diagrams that are already moderately complicated.

This.

Thanks for the theory-craft! Helps with the learning curve for new players like me!

This is a beautiful addition to the community. Thank you! I for one think that it will help both sides of the game: People will be more prepared to counter 4x TLT purely on flying, rather than solely list building, and TLT players will have more strategy available to fly their y wings in more fluid formations. It helps push everyone's game a little higher, thank you!
