So I keep thinking it would be awesome If there was an Imperial Campaign Expansion

By Walker Family, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

I love this game, it is just about everything i have ever looked for in a board game.

I keep thinking it would be awesome if there was an expansion where the heroes were four imperial characters attempting to infiltrate the rebel army. There are enough rebel units and such to do something like this. Anyone hear if this is something in the works or even if there is a fan made campaign that flips the roles of the empire and rebels?

I just think it would be awesome.

Same here. We need more unique Imperial and Mercenary characters, and a new version of the game, where the heroes are Imperials and/or Merc and Rebels are the "ennemy", would help in that regard. Also, that would give the opportunity to create more non-unique rebels, which the faction lack.

Everyone seems to want this, I honestly don't think it's very flavourful: The imperial players mechanics are built around having these massive forces available which will inevitably overwhelm the heroes given time; this shouldn't really happen with the Rebels as the bad guys.

why not? i'm sure the empire sent out covert ops and spies alike. it can easily be done. i'm with the OP.

all in favor of "Rebellion Assault", say I

While I would never turn down ANY expansion to this game, I would vote for Republic Assault before Rebellion Assault. I am an unapologetic fan of the prequels, and would enjoy more clone wars content. Grievous... Boga... Droidekas... There's some great stuff there

while i tend to agree because i also loved clone wars, the prequels and the original trilogy. isn't this all supposed to be placed in the time period after Battle of Yavin? droid armies are long gone and Grievous is long dead

though i'm a huge fan of General Grievous and i'd love to field him; he would unfortunately look out of place with the current game don't you think?

not saying they couldn't make a stand alone game though, because that would be awesome and i'd buy the **** out of it!

I don't think it would be as hard to do as people imagine. It would probably end up being a Core Box Stand alone seeing the amount of new figures that would be needed

In terms of heroes that the imperials use, you already have :

  • The emperors hand - similar to the smuggler
  • Dark Trooper prototype - similar to the Wookie
  • An Inquisitor - similar to the Jedi
  • A Moff - similar to the commander
  • A Bounty Hunter - similar to the Assault dude
  • An assassin droid - similar to the sniper

Where the problem comes in is what stories can be told. Why does the empire need a team of elite operatives? Are the rebels being to pesky?

Bounty hunter assault might be pretty cool

I think it is more realistic that FFG will either do a Star Wars Rebels and/or The Force Awakens. Just like X-wing!

Would love to see the characters from rebels in this game.... I'm just afraid they may not be alive in this time frame :(

I didn't mean this should just be a normal expansion, I also would see this as a huge change, but really it would just be a character swap.... LOTS of characters, but the mechanics and tokens and tiles would still be effective

I've actually been working on a home-brew Imperial campaign, which currently consists of five 'heroes' and one mission. The first playtest document can be found here: Playtest Document Aurek. I plan to upload the second in a few weeks, although mission design is proving tricky. At this stage testing these heroes on missions from the core campaign would be most helpful, so I will upload revised versions with class decks as soon as possible. I hope this is of interest to some of you!

I don't know about Rebel Assault in which an elite team of Imperial and Mercenaries are entering the Rebel army. I mean aren't the heroes basically a small version of the Rebelion? Isn't the Rebelion trying quick hit and run missions against the Empire even if those missions consist of thousands of rebels on tens of thousands of Imperials [see Battle of Endor (or better yet the Battle of Yavin - 32 on thousands)].

I do however, realy like the idea of a Clone Wars version. It cold be called Separatist Assault and use Republic Commandos. We could have the leader, the heavy weapons trooper, the sniper, and the infantry, hacker, and jedi. Seps could have 9 battle droids, 3 Neimoidian officers, 3 Geonosian scouts, 4 magnaguards, 2 dwarf spider droids, Crab droid, Elite magnaguard, TC-21 (on speeder), General Greivous, 4 super battle droids, 2 oppees (or what ever those mounts the geonosians have are called) and Durge tiles would be for red dessert (Geonosis), Separatist base/ship, plains (Naboo), and a city (Nar Shadda, Corellia, Coruscant).

Which makes it a bit more difficult to do, as I'm not sure the writers themselves know the fate of the rebels characters at this stage. X-wing is a bit more time period agnostic, whereas it's something specific in Imperial Assault.

I brewed up a synergistic commander like Character for a 7th player in my group to play to equal out having 6 heroes to fight. The Choices were

Dark Trooper
General
501st Solider

With the use of some preview cards of what the "Vader's finest" could do, mixed with existing talents I gave each commander an ability or special move that helped them deal Damage or disturb rebel plans and one that worked well with a larger force, seeing as they were playing with me as a helper of sorts.

ja, Ja, JA!.....
