400 doesn't seem like enough

Support means nothing. Being OOP makes some ships hard to get though. And certain elements of anything are unbalanced (Hello Demolisher, Hello Fat Turrets) and the book-keeping is easy and certainly never put off anyone I've ever met. We still regularly play BFG at our group. At least now that it's fan supported, it's easy to correct balance issues since we don't need to wait for an official fix. Much like NetEA.

I kind of agree that 400 really does feel a bit light. You can't even get the Tatooine Blockade force from ANH for 400, or most of the fleets from the few semi detained fleet actions from the various RPG books or most fleet battles from Legens or the canon novels.

That said I think this is meant more as a small skirmish, or a small section within a larger battle then the big battles from either canon or Legends

I am on the side that the points should not be too high so that players have to make decisions about their builds. Its part of the game.

I come from Flames of War where people always want to play huge games so they can fit everything they want. I do not like that.

However, having said that I also feel 400 is too low. especially if you add squadrons in. "WHEN" squadrons become a viable meta, that leaves you will only 266 points for ships.

600 seems like too much. I've never played it so maybe others can say but 200pts of fighters seems a bit crazy.

And the game would take way longer.

I know we can play higher at home, but I don't like doing that. I like playing the game what it was meant to be played had.

Squadrons are a viable alternative. You should never feel like you need to take the maximum amount of Squadrons. Just as you should feel like you shouldn't take the minimum or no amount of Squadrons.

You will always have to make desicions about your build, no matter the points limit. The limit changes nothing in that regard, except the amount of dollars you need to fill a list. Even with 8,000 points a side, there'd still be decisions to make. Ships I didn't have the points for, upgrades I couldn't afford, squadrons I had to cut, etc.

Without meaning to cause offence, that attitude depresses me. I like playing all sorts of games with my star wars stuff. Different sized games on different sized tables, with different objectives all the time. A little bit of me dies every time someone says "Nah, I'd just like to play a normal tournament game thanks". Sure, the 400 point tournament format is good every once in a while. Everything in moderation, after all. But playing every game like that is like having a full tool kit, and only ever using a hammer. You've been given this great set of tools to play Star Wars games with, and you only ever play the tournament format? Why limit yourself like that!?

Why limit yourself like that!?

Because its the only way I can pack up my stuff, take a Bus for Half an hour, Then A Train for an Hour and a Half, Walk for 30 minutes, and when I finally GET to the Gaming Store - reasonably expect to get a game at the other end...

I'll be honest, I think people making a five+ hour round trip to play Armada are at the extreme edge of the bell curve. And besides, it costs nothing to throw an extra 200 points of models in your case and ask people to play a larger game, or some other type of game.

We use Facebook a lot to arrange games and discuss how we want to play. It makes things run a lot smoother.

Oh yeah, I get stood up all the time when I use Facebook to do that sort of thing...

We're getting way off topic here, but where do you live that you need to travel more than two and a half hours to find a game? By the time I've travelled 2.5 hours I've gone through like, ten towns. And my home town of ~15,000 people has a sizeable gaming group.

Other than the new store in town (still a 40 min drive from home), the closest stores I know for sure that hosts Armada games are 2+ hrs away outside of Philadelphia, or 2+ hrs in the other direction in York PA. I've tried to find other stores, and they may exist, but it's not easy to find them if they're not promoting themselves.

Well, a 40 minute drive seems a bit better than 2.5 hours each way.

A 500 or 600 point game might be cool where you are required to have at least 1 squadron stand per ship taken.

That's a simple and easy house rule.

I like the ( you have to fill your hangers rule myself) :D
