1st game

By Darknight4, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

ok, as luck would have it i ended playing the game by myself after all, it took some time obviously, and i didnt have time to finish due to kids not going to bed late!!

but on the whole i think everything whent quite smoothly, the rules seem very good and explain things well, i had the normal flipping backwards and forwards as you do but no biggie, just a couple of questions that i wasnt sure of,

1.i had an investigator in the other wolds, who on his encounter their got a card that said if you complete this go straight back to arkham, now he was on the first half, but as most games say card text take presidence with the rules that what i did, whisked him back to the open gate that took him there and gave him an explorer token, was that right or should he have ignored that?

2. i did forget a bit about the town terror track, how does this go up? is it just for monsters on the outskirts?

3. on some of the monster stats, (ones on the small squares) there are + numbers, now i took that as adding a dice to combat them, assuming it was meant for them to be a bit weak, was that right?

thank you again in advance for your help, i really was looking forward to this game, and even with a non complete go at it, it didnt dissapoint, really enjoyed it and as usual with ffg games was very pleased by the amount in the box and the fantastic quality, allthough i dont need it yet with a b.day coming up very soon, imm gonna get an expansion just to add to the collection, not to play yet of course, which one shall i ask for dunwich or insmouth?

#1: "Return to Arkham" is the key phrase, that nets you an Explored token. Yeah, you can jump from the 1st area back to Arkham with the right encounter.

#2: Mythos card text or Outskirts in the base game.

#3: Yeah.

1) You did it right. Return means return. Ordinarily, without any other assistance in an encounter (or with the Find Gate spell), you'd have to move through both halves of the other world before returning. Looks like you got lucky.

2) In the base game, 95% of the time it's outskirts overflow. There are a couply mythos effects that will raise it, though. Most of the expansions make the terror level much more active. In particular, King in Yellow, Dunwich, and Innsmouth.

3) + means bonus. The Horror Check on the High Priest is +1, meaning you get an extra die for your Horror Checks. Presumably, the H.P. can scare you at first glance, but only if you're really skiddish or he startles you. Compare that to a Star Spawn (-3), which freaks you out almost every time.

thank you guys, guess all these years playing games finally paid off cool.gif

Hoom... I love Dunwich and Innsmouth... Tough choice... And of course, not having Kingsport you can't do Epic Battles ;') heh... The big box sets are lovely... I think Dunwich has the best monsters of a big box set, so you should probably get it first.
