Pack Of Ace's....Modified & Re-painted Tie Fighters
Hey Barry, Im thinking about painting a Tie Interceptor, but with blue or black accents, any ideas?
Great minis, Barry!
These are one of the most effective Imperial conversions I`ve ever seen.... because still have an "Imperial" look
.
The third one is amazing, and I like your ideas to "fix" the phantom´s original design. I don't like this ship, but I bought a miniature`s lot with one of these, so I`m planning to use the cockpit in a new freighter...
Good job!
Thank you Nachofante.
Yes the Phantom is an odd one, i'm not a fan of the original. it looks to "dumpy" ![]()
infact the design looks small and restrictive compared to what the ship can actually do.
thats why I changed my model, more solar wings for the energy draining cloaking device.
and bigger cannons for the bigger hitting power it brings to the table.
it didn't look very aggressive.
and The phantom is cloaked Hunter !
so Hopefully the model now represents that, I'm using the other left over cockpit for another fighter.
Thanks for your comments and all the best.

How's your Jedi Starfighter coming along?
Hey Mazz0
That model is the next one on my table to finish, although its taking more work than the others.
its another take on the Phantom, needing more body work and power units to supply the Cloaking device.
should have it done soon,
all the best,

Thanks Dragon.
Had a lot of fun building that one.

Hey Barry, Im thinking about painting a Tie Interceptor, but with blue or black accents, any ideas?
Hello Orrin,
Hmmm what about a black base and then a blue wash, it would give it that electric haze about it.
or
Black base.....I always spray my Tie models black then drybrush them varying grey's,
do a dark grey, light drybrushing over the model, then pick out cockpit and wing sections in deep ultramarine blue, then a little highlight
drybrushing in light blue. so the Blue stands out over the grey.
also
Blood stripes in Blue instead of Red,
you could also drybrush blue over black on the whole model, black solar panels but with white blood stripes and cockpit accents.
the white would work with the blue......and still look like an Imperial regiment, Special Forces "Ice Squadron"
I'm sure there's many more options with in those ideas.
All the best my friend.

Im thinking maybe Grey with Blue strips. thanks for the advice!
Hi Orrin.
Cool.....literally !
lets see the finished model when your done. I don't think I have seen any Tie's with Blue blood stripes.
Would look really good.
All the best,
Barry

Oh boy, I don't even have the model, but now I really want to try it out! I think my brother has some modelling paints....
Have fun Orrin
If your doing blood stripes.
Take time on the Masking, and use a pencil or sharp stick to push the masking tape into all of the edges across the interceptor solar wing,
And then when you paint......don't go heavy.
All most dry brush the paint, do it in layers and build it up.
As sometimes the paint can seep under the masking tape if the paint is to wet.
I also use vinyl and alloy tape, but there glue is very tacky. But you get a finer mask line.
You will be fine with masking tape,
You can also tear a piece of the tape off and stick it to a
Cutting board or clean surface.
Then,
Cut the tape to the size you want to make it manigable when you are lining it up and sticking it to the model.
Hope that little info helps.
All the best,
Barry.

Thanks Barry, now I want to paint!
CUSTOM TIE PHANTOM MkII
Following on from my Custom Phantom with the four Solar wings X wing configuration.
I am now building another one but with scratch built wings.
which means I can make it look more how I want to, instead of the normal restriction of using standard parts.
Before I decide to start cutting out everything in plastic card.
I need to see how various ideas will look.
and If I want to go with a similar quad wing configuration as before.
or go back to a Tri Wing design............
The wings are mocked up from Card, and tacked on with blue tack to give a rough idea of what it might
look like, and decide if the wing size is right for the model.
in this Tri wing set up, it has a "Chig Fighter" look about it.......Space Above and Beyond.
for those that don't know what a Chig Fighter is
With the extra wing added I can see how a Quad wing design might work, similar as before.
but with smaller upper wings to not make it look so top heavy.
I can also add in some design features on these such as large wing ailerons for maneuverable atmospheric flight.
I will be working on this model over the next few weekends.
and will post pic's as I go.
and hopefully have it ready for its first trial run in three weeks time ![]()
All the best,
Barry
Nice little conversion to a Tie Aggressor.
Did you also make the cards ?
And why your last conversion.
If you enjoyed it, why not go a little further.
There are many Ties out there that can be represented
With Minor modifications.
Very good.
All the best,
Barry.

Barry, what ever happened to the quad-wing featured here in May '16? I'm sure you finished it, but there hasn't been an update (on this thread, at least).
dude that TIE Phantom looks like a ship from Descent. And i f'ing love Descent so i am cool with that lol

Actually I haven't finished it yet.
But I have been working on it
Its still a quad wing.
But they....and the body and engines have increased in size.
I'll show you soon once I get to primer stage.
Thanks.
And all the best.
Barry.

Descent......what is that.
Is it a computer game ?
Im not a gamer. So I wouldn't know.
I'll have to look it up.
Finally got a chance to do some work on my Second custom Phantom.
Although what was supposed to be a simple wing mod turned into a bit of a Frankenstein !
Maybe something the Imperial technicians cooked up in a secret Imperial Skunk Works
Cutting the Wings from a Left Arc-170 parts.......
And then Extending the Body to allow for bigger engines and increased inner hull room.....
It is far from finished, I have some extra parts to add and some surface finishing to tidy it up.
but its getting there.
its also a lot bigger than a Standard Phantom. Bigger power-plant engines and weapons.
Tie-experimental.....X-F-2-Phantom.
