Just out of curiosity, as I see a lot of people claiming BB-8 and experimental interface is awesome, or push the limit, or there's also Turr Phenir. This has lately been coming to my attention with BB-8 and other cards that generate stress. He seems useless on a ship that is intends to generate a lot of stress, am I right? I don't think he is at all good with experimental interface or push the limit. Mostly because it says "When you reveal a green maneuver, perform a free action barrel roll." Well, if you PTL'ed or Interfaced last round, you're stressed, which means when you reveal that dial you're stressed... Which means no barrel roll. The reason I brought up Turr Phenir, is because to me he's very similar, just he's usually stressed to begin with [for me] and therefore gets no free barrel roll/boost.

So, I guess.... Am I just missing something?

It's because of this chain with BB-8:

1. reveal green manouvre

2. Barrel roll

3. PTL off that barrel roll

4. clear the stress with the green manouvre

5. Perform another action in your action phase

So next turn, you are not stressed at the start. And you've taken 3 actions.

Experimental Interface only works with BB-8 if you have a card with the ACTION: header (BB-8 doesn't have it), like Marksmanship or something. But again, you'd clear the stress from it with the green.

BB-8 is useful in a few ways - and can be used effectively with PTL:

- Reveal a green maneuver.

- BB-8 immediate barrel roll action

- PTL immediate action and add stress

- Execute green maneuver and remove stress

- Perform regular action after the maneuver.

As far as Turr Phenir goes, I use him against lower PS pilots by moving into attack range and focus. Use the focus for attack and then take the free BR or boost, PTL and either Boost, BR, or evade. In a lot of cases, I have gotten in range one inside of an enemy ship's arc, 4-dice attacked with a focus, and then boosted and BR out of arc so they never got a chance to shoot me.

I was making the OPs mistake myself until someone pointed out that you can trigger PTL off of BB8's barrel roll. Now I'm considering using the same trick using Advanced Sensors on a B-Wing.

The PTL-before a green move with Adv Sensors trick has been the staple of tourney-winning IG lists.

They usually boost, get a free evade, PTL for a focus, and then do a green.

sensor + PTL on a B-wing isn't too great given the limited actions and lack of good named pilots (whereas BB-8 adds an action to an X and can go on ships such as Poe or WEdge)

for B-wings we have overpriced Numb, torp nera, stress having Ibs and stress ditching Farlander. the later two don't want to do greens off of sensors; Nub is hellishly expensive. Maybe Nera?

sensor + PTL on an E-wing with r2-d2 though...that's just evil

Main difference is that B-wing has some limited green maneuvers and you don't get the 3rd action in.

E-wings Corran and Etahn can make good use of this, especially having the choices of focus, TL, and evade to pick from.

One of the guys at the FLGS last night was rocking R3A2 with Wired on Wes. It's a wicked combination that I wish I'd thought of.

Problem is it's overkill against a lot of ships. B's, Y's, and Decimators are all pretty popular.

wait it says when you reveal a green maneuver, not when you perform. this would let you get out of all sorts of "oh no, next turn I am definitely hitting a rock". Or making it much more difficult for yout opponent to know where you will end up. PTL and stressed uses of it are nice as well.

Nope, it's a Free Barrel Roll action. Unfortunately.

You can't do free actions when you have a stress token.
