So, I recently posted a three ship Imperial list (two Vics and a Glad) in the builds subforum and I was asked why I didn't select opening salvo as my objective. After thinking about it awhile, I feel that this objective hurts fleets with larger ships and more hull points (Obviously Imperials) and benefits Rebel fleets (or Glad spam I guess). What are your guys' thoughts on the matter?
Opening Salvo as Imperials
Valid point but the counter is that the last few turns you can repair up. Sadly as an Imperial you have slow medium ships with a bad turn so getting away would be difficult.
On the plus side you can damage the enemy and get points if they try and flee

True (especially because I tend to run my ships pretty barebones so I won't be giving away extra points on upgrades), and I suppose it would be great on mirror matches. Might try this out (especially since Advanced Gunnery will never be picked if I run demolisher anyway).
Opening Salvo can be great if you have ACMs and Screed (black crits at long range are pretty groovy), but otherwise I'd generally steer clear of it.
When flying glads I prefer to not play opening salvo.
While throwing black dice at long is groovy, there's a pretty good chance that the opponent has an evade to avoid it.
Being on the receiving end of it isn't kind to gladiators in my experience either. A craft player will wait til all ships have a shot on demolisher and then unload all the opening salvos on it. That's going to melt a gladiator, which is no fun.
Vics with opening salvo, sure, they're beefy enough to handle it, but since I prefer to VGG, I avoid opening salvo like the plague.
