Numbering generic fighters idea

By DarkGuard, in X-Wing

with the upcoming Coloured pegs instead of numbering ties 1 to 3 we could say have green, red and blue.

does anyone have any colour marker ideas to put onto the pilot card to represent the the coloured pegs?

I think the number tokens look way better than having every ship in your squadron be a different color...

We number our units with the lowest Id being the lowest Pilot Skill. No we don't use duplicate Ids but we still keep them from lowest to highest. It makes it easier when you have 4 to 6 ships to side to see which ones go next.

Colored sleeves. A couple packs should supply several players with an ample number

Or just shove a extra colored peg into the sleeve

I do like the exact opposite. Because the id numbers represent their squadron number. And their number, the higher ranked they are in the squadron.

So when I play, Soontir is usually Night 1, and gets the 1 id token.

To save time on set up and break down, I made new numbered tombstones that are smaller than the default ones so that the base inserts can be swapped out while the numbers are still attached, then I glued them to the bases. Now I have a set of permanently assembled bases numbered 1-6 and colored differently for each of rebels, scum and imps.

Next up is to redo my target locks with numbers as well so that I can match up the TL with specific ships and to magnetize my ships and bases.

If you have imperial assault they give you loads of colored tokens (that are also numberes) for squads.

In bigger games you could do Red 1,2,3 Blue 1,2,3 using those.

I'd rather stick with the number tokens. If nothing else, they lock the cardboard plate down so it's not forever popping out when you try to lift the base.

I've actually painted and glued stuff on the little number tokens they offer. I hated it...especially in the early game, when you show up with a bunch of Ties and your opponent has the same numbers. I wanted something unique.

At first, I painted the tokens and used some 40k decals in the middle. I painted lines on the side to represent the numbers. So....3 lines = 3. It was a bit time consuming and some people were confused about the lines.

For my next Imperial system, I just googled for an Imperial icon and some red numbers. I resized the images in word and printed them out. I used the white side and a glue stick. I just put the Imperial circle symbol to cover the number and then put the red number above that. It looks even better.

I'll try to take some pictures when I get the chance.

There are a lot of things you can do with a glue stick and a color printer to make your ship identifiers cool. The best part is that even if someone says how they can't be tournament legal as they aren't the proper markers, you can tell them that they are the actual markers, just detailed.

I've painted a bunch of my ships different colors and to go with it painted some target locks and number chits the same color as the ship's main color. I can then just run the ships and let the color coordinated pieces do the rest.

Any ship I get multiples of receives a hull number painted on the miniature. Each ship has it in the same location on all units (Y-Wings top of the canopy, X-Wings along the nose, TIEs along the back edge of the wing panels, etc).

I just try to match up the Target Lock letters with the Pilot names when possible.

I repainted and glued stuff on for my TL's, too. It's easy to figure out which TL is Vader's when it's got his face on it.

Not too sure about your method of doing the number tokens, but that's an idea.

I'll post pics when I can...if I remember!

Speaking of, I made stopgap letter markers for the IGs since they're not super easy to distinguish at tabletop distance. Why they didn't have something like that in the packages is beyond me.

Forgot I took some pics before. Let me see what I can dig up.

I've made little stickers that go on the ship token, dial, storage box, TL, etc. I use the blue TL as the ID marker on the pilot card, and for ships that don't TL, I put the sticker on the little disc you punch out of the ship token when you get it.
