Question, So has Ordnance been fixed?

By devotedknight, in X-Wing

Has Ordnance been fixed to the point where it worth paying the points or not?

Edited by devotedknight

I think in some circumstances it always was. I think it is more viable on low PS multi slot ships now

Well, it's not worth taking under all circumstances on every ship that can possibly carry it. But that's a property it shares with literally every upgrade in the game, so.

You can put several secondary one shot weapons on a ship with torp slots without spending too much points. So the investment is less risky but the problem that most missiles, boms and torps have is that they need an action and are still often very random.

Cannons, elite talents or just buy ships with higher primary attack are usually still better in the long run IMO. Alltthough some pilots/ships can put ordnance to very good use.

I've had some success using bombs on a low PS K-Wing. Not to actually have the bombs detonate, mind, but rather as a means of shutting down lanes and directing my opponent toward my gaggle of jousters.

yep tie bombres are now more usefull as cluster missle barges!!!

XX-23 Thread Tracers will be the final necessary fix I reckon. If 4 TLT builds turn out to be a long-term thing, a squadron of six Talas, one or two with XX-23s and the rest armed with Assault of Concussion missiles will be a highly effective hard counter.

There are times and places where you will take torpedoes and missiles. But they are hardly autoinclude. I think they will become more attractive after Wave 8.

Wave 7 wasn't the "fix" everyone was hoping for, but was a fix for a completely different issue with ordnance.

Nah, smart money's on that new modification.

I think XX-23 Thread Tracers and Gui(Dance System)? from Wave 8 are intended to solve the action economy and target lock acquisition problems, while extra munitions solves the cost issue.

Well what do you mean by fixed? Will we be seeing bombs and mines, as well as missile and torpedo secondary weapons in the final cut of worlds? The answer will still be NO!

Are they now useful and not a colossal waste of points only used by players that want to lose? Not really but it is not a point throwaway that is used to be.

I think the standard procedure that has always been the case for the meta still applies today. And that is to not spend more than a single ship (12 point) on bomb/missile/torpedo upgrades which also include any other slot with upgrades that are used in conjunction (such as bombardier, munitions fail-safe and dead eye as those upgrade only affect missile/torpedo/bomb upgrades). If you have 11 points vested in such upgrades and need to use munitions fail-safe you are best dropping all of them and taking an Academy/Bynree/Bandit instead.

It's pretty good on Redline as is. Tracers seem really effective for the ordinance alpha after wave 8.

Advanced Homing Missiles just got a lot more attractive with the new damage deck. Amiright?

AdvHM + Rymer is super attractive right now. Plus ExMun. Ka-Booms a-plenty

Major Hull Breach makes it even more useful for potentially one-shotting ships beyond just Corran.

Nope ordnance still blows chuncks

Only real "fix" was redline and stim ndru (they make clusters SING; red's pretty good with plasmas too!)

Wave 7 was the conner net wave. Wait till 8 for

1) tracers

2) new torp/missile mod

3) torp boat pogostick of doom

Black Sun + Homing Missile + Glitterstim = 20 points. Pop your stim and grab you lock which don't have to spend and your opponent can't use an evade token. At ps 3 these guys will go before a TLT y-wing ( most of the time ). The Stim will also help keep you alive to get the missile out of the tubes. This is the cheap missile carrier that we have been waiting for.

Tycho w/ Proton Rockets, PTL, DD, EI

Jake w/ Proton Rockets, VI, PTL, AT

N'dru w/ Cluster Missiles, LW, GS

These are probably the three BEST uses of ordnance in the game. There are other corner cases, but even Redline seems to not be worth it.

A-Wing proton rockets are popular in my meta and they are dangerous. That N'dru combo is great, and totally worth 25 points. It's like getting hit with two HLC shots from Krassis.

I think ordnance is in a better spot niw, but it's still not quite solid. I really want to be able to use the Torpedo slot in my T-65 X-Wing, but I probably shouldn't. For 2 reasons.

Integrated torpedoe?

My understanding was that Wave 7 was the fix for bombs, but didn't do much for missiles or torpedoes.

Define fixed?

I don't think you can run ordnance like you can run TLT's or HLC's. I think ordnance has *some* applications now, rather than being too situational to ever use. It's there to give a ship another trick, rather than the ship being the delivery for the great new missiles you want to fire.

For example, played against a Scum Fett + Glitter + Cluster missiles recently. It's pretty devastating if you can get in R1 of a few enemies, and the damage potential 'feels' like 6 points worth.

I've played ~20-30 games with variously armed TIE Bombers since the new toys hit.

Extra Munitions goes a long, long way towards making ordnance competitive.

The platforms available for making use of the card are still too contingent to take a strong position in the metagame.

I believe that a stronger player than myself could take bombers to first place at a major regional.

Winning worlds? Probably not.

That said, certain munitions make a very strong answer to TLT Y-wings.
