X Wing 5 years from now?

SWG ships will finally all be in the game.

FFG can always create new Star Wars ships and add them to the cannon. That is how we got the Imperial Raider, so I don't think there is ever really any chance they can run out, regardless of source material.

Considering how cool the Imperial Raider looks, I wouldn't mind a few more of these in the future.

I agree. After the work they did on the Raider, I wouldn't mind seeing them dream up a small and large base ship or two.

In five years I would suspect that X-WIng v1.0 (or 1.1 if you consider the new rules in the FA Core set as a minor change to the existing) would have run its course to be honest. I can imagine that with ALL of the Star Wars movies and media out there five years from now that we will have a wealth of new material to base ships/crew/upgrades on in the game of X-Wing however... how many ships can you have before new ships invalidate old ships or new one are just retreds of existing material, and the old ships never see play because the new one do the same thing, only better and so on.

I mean imagine the list builders for each faction (I could see new factions being tried again and again to breath some life into the game) 5 years from now with about 50 possible ships choices per faction, with 200+ pilots and 1000s of possible upgrades... that sounds like system bloat to me. At some point too much is too much...

At some point in time...X-Wing 2.0 will have to be a thing. A total revamp of the rules and fixing mechanics that no matter how hard they try still doesn't quite work. It is a great time to reset the entire game, get points right, increase the size of the game if you choose..say 200, 300 points... add new rule and mechanics, experiment with new ideas and new ways to play the game.

But this is a good thing! The fact that we can see a future where X-Wing still exists and is a thriving community and game, then FFG is doing something very right!

If/when they do a reboot. I'm might be done depending on how they handle it (If I have to re-buy everything then I'm done).

Its not like you have to return all of your current space ships. We can all play x wing v1 forever.

I've been thru some cycles for different games. Generally, once a game is not support/out of production then it's hard. It really comes down if you have a good group of folks interested in playing.

Then over time, you really can't develop more interest because the game isn't support or there is a "revised edition." So, it equates to stagant play for the existing group over time and lack of developing new interest. I understand games come and go and you enjoy them while you can.

About prequel ships: I don't see that happening. Simply, what faction would the go into? The Seperatists could be a new faction. The Republic branched off and became the Rebellion and the Empire. I suppose it could be a new faction too at some point, but I see FFG looking forward in the series.

((I'm a new player, so take what I say with a grain of salt.))

The ships would be continued just updated for the new version. It's not like all the current models would be invalidated just their stat cards etc.

Even if they update stats you would have to rebuy everything to get the cards, card board cut outs, dials, etc in order to play in the new system for each of your minatures. Unless FFG offered an upgrade pack for sale for these. Again it really depends on how FFG handles a reboot IF/WHEN they decide to do it.

I think it's pretty obvious they would either make everything backwards compatible or you get the cards for old stuff in some other way. It would be financial suicide to expect people to buy new versions of expansions they already owned. I'm don't see this happening nor do I necessarily see version 2.0 being inevitable.

If the game matures at certain point and it's difficult point to get new players interested because of financial costs for them to get caught up; then potential changes may take place if FFG still has a decent timeframe left with their licensing agreement.

In any event this game was released in 2012, I don't see the game being rebooted in 5 year time frame at least. My anticipation is the game to live out the current licenese agreement and FFG/Disney may not renew their license. So, the game may die out at that point in time.

Maybe it will be a "soft" 2.0 based on the new sub factions. Over time, they make it so all the really essential upgrades can be found in just the Ep VII+ products, and thus new players can be on an even basis with long time veterans of the game, without having to buy the whole back catalog. Eventually, a new tournament rule could make squads be restricted to particular sub factions. That's not quite a paradigm shift, but it renews the game without invalidating the past or making the entry point for new players to the competitive scene a sheer cliff. And then, the 1.0 line becomes just a series of retired "classics".

official co op campaigns. that come with new upgrade cards. Released every 2 - 3 months.

At least you didn't add the words limited release.... ;)

Why would anything be limited release? Sounds horrible.

Well you can expect more ships from the movies and shows published by Disney. So in 5 years there should be Episode VIII and just about all of the ships from Episode VII and Rebels should be made. Resistance and 1st Order will have more fleshed out faction ships but will not be their separate faction just yet.

I don't see prequel ships 5 years from now. Not saying that there should not be any ships from the prequels. I just don't see it as a sure thing. The N-1 starfighter might make an appearance, but who knows. Hopefully they don't re-configure the required items the same way they did with the latest core set.

my guess is we're gonna see some changes with the upcoming movie, expect them to mine the EU less and focus more on Disney canon stuff. ships I expect we'll get in the next expansion wave is Kylo Ren's shuttle, the special forces TIE, and proably a special T-70 in orange and black.

Well's interesting to see, come the rest of the movies and the Rogue One movie. The key is how the license endures since it can direct the course of a community with stockists and organized play.

Should a license be taken for a region it could result in all sorts of gamer 'doomsday' scenarios from organized play support being revoked and shady stock importation.

I want that Assault Gunboat and others from the X-Wing Video game series.
New ships are fine but I really want my legacy stuff.
Stormtrooper Transports? Yes please. Assault Transports...there are loads.
