So I used, to be a fan of X wing, but got bored with it and sold all of my pieces. However, seeing that X wing is getting Episode 7 I'm interested again, but only in Episode 7 (and maybe scum). Is the game going to work with only Episode 7 and if so, should I wait till there are more ships, or is there enough to bet started now?
Should I Play?
Yeah you're still literally the worst pilot in the game. (Sorry, poke at your handle)
Honestly I really enjoy the game, so i'm gonna say play it no matter what.
and hey, if nothing else at least you won't be removed till the very end of the round.
This question is kind of like asking a bunch of alcoholics if you should have a glass of wine at dinner, don't you think?
no offense to alcoholics. or wine.
You'd need probably three cores to play with only episode 7 stuff now and you'd be short on good upgrades.

With the new Core Set, I believe, this is exactly what FFG's intention is!!! Get new people interested in playing ships from the new movies, hence the two "new" yet "same" factions that can be played on their own! Buy the new Core Set and new ships as they come out and HAVE FUN!!
I don't think we know enough to be able to say what sort of list diversity there will be with just episode 7 ships. But FFG seems to be encouraging people who want to play with just the new ships as well as those who want to mix old ships and new ships.
I think hopping in now with just the TFA stuff as if it were back in wave 1 actually sounds rather exciting to me. Pick up the new core, maybe 2, then play a few games and see if it's still something you want to get back into. Then take it slow as you work on building up your collection again. The new T-70 X-wing expansion and TIE Fighter/fo expansion won't be out for a few months, so you will be limited at first, but the core should help you know if you want to go all-in with this game again. And if the core doesn't thrill you, you'll still have cool new prepainted TFA models.
Just out of curiosity, why are you only interested in Ep.7 stuff?
the EP 7 stuff is quite awesome if it helps,
I can see 3 T-70s (bb-8 + ptl + thruster POE w/predator + thruster red & wired + r3-a2 + thruster red)
I can see 5 FOs (Omega Leader + PTL, Zeta Ace + PTL, Epislon Leader, Omega Squaddie w/Crackshot & Omega Squaddie w/Crackshot)
(use Omega Ace until leader is released)
Which part of the game did you find boring? Elaborating on that might help us tell you whether you're going towards something fresh or making the same mistake.
Talk about going back to the lion's den to get your hat! You managed to get out, and now you're thinking of starting again?
Fly you fool! Fly this place and don't look back!
In fact, best not look down either... That crunching sound you hear underfoot?
Dead wallets.
Depends on what your reason for quitting was and where you intend to play. If you want to play competetively you will find that the meta has diversified by a lot, to the point where even alpha strike squads (with some new toys, check out Extra Munitions) have a niche in which the hard counter the new meta definer. That one is the TLT and you might not like it. In masses they can be really frustrating, but they don't necessarily require you to pack a counter, which is good. Fat Han and Decimators have fallen a bit out of the picture due to TLT hard countering them, but they are not dead and have a place in the new meta.
If you want to play casualy at home just the new core set will be an infinitely better experience than the old one. A new damage deck makes crits really scary and now both ships have repositioning. The dials of both T-70 and TIE/FO are crazy. The new upgrades are pretty fun as well. You will however be pretty limited until further notice, since we don't have any info on stuff coming after the T-70 and TIE/FO expansions. It is also worth noting that there will still be new stuff from the galactic civil war era with ships from Rebels and the remaining bounty hunter ships.
You don't really outline your motivations for playing, so it's hard to say.
If you're wanting to get into tournaments and do well, then most likely no, you're going to want to have a range of ships and upgrades available (and typically won't be allowed to proxy things).
If you're wanting to play casual 100 point games, it's possible but you're going to A) need to buy a lot of the same ships to fill out the list, and B) will only have one ship type available per faction for a while (nothing else announced through wave 8, so probably wave 9 Q1 2016 would be the earliest for new ships).
If you're wanting to be ultra casual and do 30 point matches or some narrative stuff that's a supplement to the pen-and-paper RPG you're playing or w/e, then it will probably work out fine.
I think I can sum up responses from this thread as.
"joiin uuussss, joiiiiin uuuussss".
The game is still the same so if you got bored once you will probably get bored again. T-70's and Tie/fo's are pretty much like T-65's and Tie/ln's.
You should check out Imperial Assault or Armada instead.

I dunno, I tend to feel like if you want to play, play.
If you're not sure, don't - save your money or invest it in another hobby you know you want to do.
If you have to come on the forum and poll people as to whether you should come back or not, you're either desperate for attention or your heart isn't really in it and you're hoping to be persuaded to do it anyway.

Actually I have both! I gave up with X wing because I thought all the games started to seem the same. I'm not interested in tournies. The main reason I am interested in the game again is Episode 7. With this in mnd I'm not realy interested in A wings annd Y wings and having white and black Ties. So for a casual player who would vote the rules at about 6.5 out of 10 is it worth it? And if so should I wait till we have another wave that may have more Episode 7 fighters?

At what point did you quit? Outside of a new S-loop and T-roll, using just the new ships, at least right now, aren't going to play much different than the original game since they don't use a lot of interesting rules or mechanics that were added throughout the game. I think you'll probably get bored in a month. I'd suggest waiting another year and check back.

But I think the answer's no, from what you've currently said. At least not yet. There are only 2 Episode 7 ships available at the moment, and one of them's the "black and white TIE" you specifically said you had no interest in. Maybe check back in six months/a couple of waves to see if anything grabs you then?
If the 100 point 6 rock game got stale for you, then maybe you're in luck?
There are a bunch of new scenarios, and FFG has put out a scenero creator.
There are also new types of obstacles, and different shapes of asteroids.
Also, and I can't stress this enough- Epic play is a whole different beast.
If you only want to play Episode 7 stuff, that's gonna take a bit of doing. But if you also are interested in Scum, there are a lot of goodies in those boxes. They're Alex Davies' avowed favorite faction. ![]()

What happens if you go see Ep 7 and there are A-Wings and Y-Wings in it? Just curious
Hi Felswrath.
As the worst pilot ... ever, I can understand that you have no fun.
I supposed to fix you. Please don't give up.
Well, if got bored before, ask yourself why wouldn't you get bored with it again? I love the game but it is what it is. Some new plastic probably won't change the game completely for you. Good luck with whatever you decide.
Personally, I say it all depends on who you play with. I've found that you can make X-wing a really fun game if you have people around you that are willing to move beyond the most die hard tournament style. I've done all sorts of odd games with my local group. I've done Dagobah Dave's Trench Run mission on a giant table. I've run a lot of epic games. I've done games with all generics. Different scenarios are really a lot of fun. We have a great time. Sometimes someone shows up and only wants to run with the hardest and most tournament meta stuff and they don't want to do anything else.
If you have the group of friends that want to play the game the way you like to play it, then I say it's worth it. If you are just going to show up with your new stuff and your local store only has die hard tournament players, then you might not find it as much fun. I'm extremely happy that my local group is a fun group of guys.
As a side note, if you only get the new stuff and figure out that there are a few upgrade cards that you really wish you had, you can always just print them off and use them. If you aren't doing tournaments, most people don't care about proxy cards.
I like Scum and Villainy. They are a fun group with all sorts of crazy things going on. I am finding that I'm not going to buy them all, but I like buying the ones I want. I'm really looking forward to playing Dengar's ship as I just like Dengar and want to play something crazy.
