Building around Omega Ace

By TheTechWookiee, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I'll preface this by saying I am pretty new to X-Wing, so I am absolutely open to any and all suggestions.

I have a couple of the TFW Core sets and a few expansions, and I'm really wanting to find a squad build to put Omega Ace into. Maybe it's just me, but he just seems too good to not find a home for. I've been playing around in a squad builder and will just post up what I have at the moment, but I honestly don't feel like it's optimal for some reason. I feel like it's missing something that I can't quite put my finger on, but I'll have to shuffle some points around to stay under the 100 point limit.

"Omega Ace" (20)

  • Crack Shot (1)

"Howlrunner" (18)

  • Veteran Instincts (1)

Omega Squadron Pilot (17)

  • Push The Limit (3)

Omega Squadron Pilot (17)

  • Push The Limit (3)

Omega Squadron Pilot (17)

  • Push The Limit (3)

Total Points: 100

I feel like I need to drop one of the OSPs and possibly run with someone besides Howlrunner. I'm still playing around but just wanted to get some suggestions. I'm willing to get any expansions too so it's open for whatever! Kind of want to work Colonel Vessery in but he's expensive to throw in with Omega Ace. I'm not concerned with sticking to just TIE Fighters either!

Omega Ace is just crying for Push the Limit. Its possible to run him with other Elites, but I think Push is the best place to start. If you find the stress too limiting, or you find you are able to get his ability to activate without it (perhaps not as often) then maybe start looking for alternatives, but Push the Limit has some obvious synergy with getting his ability to activate...

Here's a list I just thought up that is probably not 'competitive', but ought to be fun:

Vessery w/ Vet Instincts, HLC & shield upgrade = 47

Omega Leader w/ Juke & Comm Relay = 26

Omega Ace w/ Push the Limit & Comm Relay = 26

99

Juke is a natural fit on Omega Leader, who also has great synergy with Vessery, since he wants to throw on target locks and keep them there as long as possible. Once he's got a target lock, he turns into Dark Curse on drugs, applying that annoying ability to both enemy attacks AND defense rolls. Juke is a no-brainer to capitalise on that.

Comm Relay is going to be really good, imo. I can't see running the 'named' (non-generic FOs) without it (since you've already paid a premium for their abilities and PS, might as well add to their durability).

Alternatively, if you don't like the idea of running just 3 ships (2 of which having only 2 attack apiece), you could drop Omega Leader (or Omega Ace) and the shield upgrade off of Vessery to add in a pair of Epsilons at 15 pts each it leaves the list at 99.

I agree with the list Blade provided... I cannot wait for my F/o Blister and "Omega L-emme See that again?" honestly... will be the most looked at card in the arsenal.

I see what youre trying to do but for my money the Tie Swarm Id go with is THIS

I might try all the above out this weekend. My brother and I both still learning and will mostly just be playing with each other as we go until we get the full hang of it. Thanks for the suggestions!

I like the build, would put Epsilon Leader instead of Omega Ace for synergy with the push the limit ties.

Im kinda torn when it comes to an F/O TIE Swarm, but more because of Epsilon Leader. Should you be going for PTL on the squad, or just use him to take advantage of the fact they're one of the only formations that can all repeatedly S-Loop and K-Turn back to back.
