Mind the Gap?

By Hawkstrike, in X-Wing Off-Topic

OK, so with its miniatures games FFG had given us:

- Armada: Fleet battles like at the Battle of Endor.

- X-wing: Dogfighting like at the Battle of Yavin

- Imperial Assault: Small scale skirmish, like the Death Star Rescue, and to a lesser extent the ground battle on Endor.

Anyone mind the gap? We can't do combined air-ground battles like the Battle of Hoth, which is my favorite sequence from my favorite Star Wars movie.

Sure, there are some fan-made rules creations like SWXW: Ground Assault that expand one of the existing games to cover the gap. But that's not quite the same thing as a decent set of miniatures and associated bits and bobs.

Battle of Hoth was my favourite part of all six movies.

If FFG make it, I'd get it just for the AT-ATs

I mind, quite a bit in fact. I only got into Warhammer 40k because Epic 40K was dead before my time. I would love to have the proper scale ground battles, although the ground units wouldn't need to move the same as the aerial/space vehicles.

Yeah while Imperial Assault was based mostly off the Endor ground battle instead of the Hot ground battle. However when you come to look at much of the lore with Star Wars and with all the side stories it follows either 1 of 2 stories. Single person in a Star Fighter (which you could do with a variant format of X-wing) or 1 on 1 dual (mostly lightsabers but blasters can be included) such as Assault. There was no real strategy type games much like the Battle of Hoth. The Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds we all know was Age of Empires re-skinned.

I must say that I'm very disappointed with this post. I was expecting something else by the post title and you have let me down. Shame on you Hawkstrike! BUWAHAHAHAHAHA!
