Need Help: Cortosis Slug Rounds Where in the book?

By Atraangelis, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hi all,
I need help in finding a side bar article in one of the books according to one of my fellow players regarding cortosis jacketed rounds???

A serious discussion took place regarding triggering its ability ona saber user, how does the ability trigger to short out a saber when the one doing the rolling is the attacker and not the defender in this case.

When a Jedi hits a Cort object, their roll has to be good enough to not shor out the saber(3t or 1 Des) but if being shot at, how would the Attacker using a slug thrower trigger that????

In this example, lets assume the attackers net results are 1Success/2 advantage/3 Threat
He hits the jedi for 10 points with a cortosis round.
Now the jedi uses reflect, and negates 6 points.

The argument i have seen is the Jacketed round can now attempt to short the saber??? but i don see this mechanically or without a roll from the defending jedi??

IT seems mechanically backwards and a major negative to the jedi if folks are hand waving this.

They are in the F&D Beta page 131.

I cannot recall if they are in the F&D Core though. Maybe cut, maybe to be released later, maybe I just am missing them. ;)

But, in you example above. The pool wouldn't be "1Success/2 advantage/3 Threat", it would be "1 Success / 1 Threat". Advantages and disadvantages cancel.

Thanks Tear44, for the book and page reference as I was looking all over the core and could not find it. This would explain alot and i feel a little better if they were in fact removed from the final book.

As for the Die roll,

In my notes above i did indicate the roll is the -NET- results (meaning after cancellations).

I believe in the game that Cortosis merely prevents the 'Sunder' and 'Breach' effects. I have not seen these slugs in the book, they must have been cut after the Beta. Even if they do have an effect for shorting out a lightsaber, I would assume that it would be activated like most other effects, by spending advantages (which are not available in the above example).

If it is not something that requires Advantage to activate (which it may not, it is usually a passive ability), then I assume that it damages the lightsaber 1 step. There's a chart in the CRBs detailing damage to items and how to repair that. Possibly this would mean the Lightsaber is unusable for the rest of the fight/until repaired.

Just curious, but if Advantages and Threat are opposites, they cancel each other out, how can you Net 2/3? Wouldn't the net be 0/1?
