First time playing in an Escalation tournament, what should I expect?

By ParaGoomba Slayer, in X-Wing

3 rounds, 60 - 90 - 120.

At least 2 ship rule being followed.

New core set ships allowed.

What to expect? I imagine that initial 60 point round is just going to be 48 point Super Corrans and token Z's or Chewy with a token Z. 35 point Soontir with a 25 point ship nearby seems like a possibility. Any particularly nasty builds that I should watch out for? Any builds that are nasty at 60 and get extra nasty at 90?

Well don't expect any traditional standard lists. If you want to use a point heavy large base ship then you will have to underbid in the first round such as only 2 TIE Fighters or 2 Z-95s and count the first round as a loss.

However with the new MOV for large ships that might not be a good idea. Expect TLT Y-wings and HWK-290s.

1.) Can't you just build your point heavy large based ship to 48 points, tack a Z-95 on to meet the requirement, and add upgrades to it later?

2.) At 60 points you can only get at max 2 TLT ships. Maybe Miranda and a Gold Squadron both with TLT's, but that seems about it. Once you get down to only 2 TLT's you can't do the 8 attacks on one thing thing and a high PS ace may be able to get into a croissant. It just doesn't seem as good when you only have 2 TLT's.

30-point E2 B-wings. Each with a premier defense crewman such as Lando or C-3PO. I didn't face it till the 120-point round, but it was inventive and brutal.
