So where are all the TIE Advanced now?

By CaineHoA, in X-Wing

Also the one time I tried the Storms with AC they were devastatingly effective, the ability to just take evades, or stress them and just alwys get two hits is pretty special.

I love the new Advanced, it has become my favourite over the Defender and A wing. I do think a lot of the limelight has been stolen by the wave 7 ships, especially the looming shadow of 4Y wing TLT.....I think there is a thread somewhere about this..

For me, the biggest problem is the absence of a green turn. It allows the A-wing and the Interceptor to PTL

Watching a natural roll of two misses with Vader invariably become a hit and two critical hits is both hilarious and terrifying.

Focus, Palpatine, ATC?

I love the ATC, but my dice don't love me. I routinely roll two or three misses, elect to spend the target lock instead of just adding the crit from the ATC, and come up with just a single hit anyway.

My two favourites are Vader and Juno. Vader doesn't need PtL and Juno gets a lot more utility from her dial than other TIE/x1s

Give Juno the mk.ii and she can rival any PTL interceptors.

Darth Vader, has the innate 2nd action, Juno Eclipse gets more green maneuvers than the other pilots. A TIE mkII 1 point upgrade serves for the others. You'll be doing banks instead of turns to clear stress, but you should have the option of doing 3 speed banks to remove stress while Interceptors and A-wings stick to slower speed 2 maneuvers.

The engine upgrade will still make them very mobile.

There's give and take, they are pretty decent.

2 things: a) take predator, just do it.

b) don't spend the lock, it's never worth having to take that action again. Just add your crit and have discipline.

I am kicking a** and taking names with them. Just wont a store champ with vader/fel/palpmobile.

exact list? 100pts, shield, VI EU?

Omicron Group Pilot

Emperor Palpatine

Darth Vader

Calculation

TIE/x1

Adv. Targeting Computer

Engine Upgrade

Sontir Fel

Push the Limit

Royal Guard Pilot

Stealth Device

Autothrusters

99 points, was a lot of fun putting a 4 crit attack on a decimator with vader , the only sad thing was blanking out on the green to the return of 4 hit attack and getting vadered. :(

ATC/EU/Outmaneuver Vader will have a place in my Ace of Aces list for eternity for single handily turning a disastrous game around:

After a loaded up Redline and two Academies were turned into space slag by Latts Razzi in the YV-666 and 2x tricked out Kihraxz Black Sun Aces without much effort, Vader outmaneuvered and picked them off one by one, including the emerging Pup as the very last ship on the table.

:D

Also, btw, AC overwhelming. Good.

ATC. Underwhelming. Hard to use. Needs two actions.

Dial: ****.

Vader: Still doesn't look like Tier1 like MJ said. Good though. Also, survives less than Fel.

37 or 33 point Vader with or without EU makes appearances everywhere. And ATC is played on Vader, Juno, Maarek and Alozen. Juno and Maarek need PTL for it, Vader prefers Predator or Lone Wolf.

Palpmobile is an absolute tier 1 list too.

My version:

Omicron Group Pilot (21)

Emperor Palpatine (8)

Darth Vader (29)

Lone Wolf (2)

Advanced Targeting Computer (1)

Engine Upgrade (4)

TIE/x1 (0)

Soontir Fel (27)

Push the Limit (3)

Autothrusters (2)

Stealth Device (3)

Royal Guard TIE (0)

Total: 100

Not saying its the best version but i will probably replace Lone Wolf for Juke once its available.

I have seen Sensor Jammer on the shuttle replace EU, or a 1 point EPT for Shield upgrade on Soontir, but it's a rock solid list and i would most definitely say it can win tournaments. Vader is an essential part of this too!

How about a VI Vader to beat other Vaders, and with an initiative bid.

Give Juno the mk.ii and she can rival any PTL interceptors.

I've been liking PtL and Engine Upgrade on Juno. If for no other reason than it lets her keep pace with Vader.

I even like ATC + Expose + EI on Vader.

I play Soontir, Juno & Maarek and enjoy it quite a bit. But I don't play competitively, so I can't really tell you how "good" they are.

With Epsilon Leader in the mix that sounds really good.

I would probably only do that if Phantoms made a massive reappearance. Other than that the PS game is not as important as it once was (it feels like that at least). Being more survivable is key now with TLTs, so i would maybe run Determination (well not against TLT but against Manglers very useful) or Crack Shot. Wired or Cool Hand are options too for 1.

Anyway with Palpy i think Stealth device is better than Hull or Shield on Soontir, as you have more safety.

My buddy's version:

Omicron Group Pilot (21)
Emperor Palpatine (8)

Darth Vader (29)
Predator (3)
Advanced Targeting Computer (1)
Proton Rockets (3)
TIE/x1 (0)

Juno Eclipse (28)
Push the Limit (3)

Advanced Targeting Computer (1)
Proton Rockets (3)
TIE/x1 (0)

Total: 100

It packs an absolutely murderous alpha strike with the prockets (and there's really not many better procket delivery systems than Juno), followed by critical hits everywhere.

Target priority is a nightmare as well - go after Palpatine first and the Advanced will move into range one and whomp you, go after an Advanced first and Palpatine will just laugh and give it extra an evade each round.

I played 3x Advanced this past weekend at a tournament at the new Coolstuff store in Waterford. Vader, Juno, and Marek. I got completely eviscerated. Granted I made some mistakes, but I simply didn't have the firepower that I expected to have. Having pilots skills 7, 8 and 9 sounds great until you end up facing multiple 2 ship builds with PS 9, my PS 7 and 8 were effectively useless. I wasn't always able to get a Target Lock when I wanted to, so the Title and ATC only ended up working about half the time.

I think the Advanced is indeed STRONG, but I don't think it is "Broken". I don't see it winning any tournaments by itself, but I DO think it can do very well with the right supporting cast.

Vader will always be strong. PS 9 and double actions are extremely solid. You CAN even give him expose now, though it's not always a great option, but I find it is more effective now in some cases.

Juno is a true star in this ship. She now has probably the best dial in the game, and the freedom to adjust. At PS 8 that is very strong. Giving her PTL really helps also.

Marek is somewhat lacking still. I was able to get his ability to work, drawing a pilot crit on Howlrunner early, eliminating her pilot ability, so that was cool... but his ability isn't going to trigger reliably, and shields shut him down pretty hard.

I want to fly some additional pilots.

I usually take VI on Vader. This allows me to have Stealth Device on Soontir and Vader moves after other Vaders, Soontires etc.

I think a 3 Ship List with only 2 Attack Dice each just doesnt have enough output against some enemies even with the autohit upgrades.

So maybe the key is adding one Advanced to a bunch of other ships.

I was going to try to make them a thing locally,

guaranteed 2 hit results and 1 evade result with the relevant action? I was sold

but then everyone started showing up with freaking Vader <_< and all I had was this nifty Conner Net K-wing :)

yeah, poor Vader hasn't been able to get much off the ground. It's entirely my fault

flying Redline and freaking Whisper as my go to "aces" now

I've been having a lot of fun with Tempest + Accuracy Corrector + Proton Rockets.

I played Vader w/ 3 generics while drunk one night. I made the mistake (twice) of not turtling Vader on the approach and he got killed in the first couple turns of shooting. After that, it was just too hard for the Tie Advanced Generics to hunt down Bro Bots or the Tie Phantom.

He either needs to turtle or arc dodge, but he can't really afford to face tank much, especially without his buddy Palpatine.
