How did you start playing X-wing?

By Astrella, in X-Wing

I played Star Trek: Attack Wing (STAW) for about a year - a friend got me into it. When that game jumped the shark, I broke down and played a few games of X-Wing. I knew all along I would like X-Wing better, but I had spent so much on STAW, that the idea of financing another miniatures game kept me from playing. Well, as soon as I played, I realized where all the things I like about STAW came from. It wasn't long before I had one (or more) of every ship (except the tie expansion... gotta get round to that).

I was similar. I played GW games until the prices became absurd and the community dried up. My wife and I bought both Attack Wing and X-Wing, played both for a while but drifted more toward X-Wing.

We now have every non Epic ship except the Punisher and Rebel Z-95. Loving it more and more, especially since I found this awesome forum and community.

Oh man, you're missing out on that Z95. Blount is hilarious... even if Soontir doesn't agree. ;)

I know, I need to get it soon. Blount + Assault Missiles always seems like fun :D

I started collecting Conquest this year after my best mate and I just had enough of GW and that was any easy way to stay in 40K.

After buying everything to do with Conquest, I mentioned to my mate that I still had a minatures itch that Conquest didn't scratch. Saw the X-Wing models at my FLGS and we both wanted them.

My fiancee was worried about the price till I bought her a Most Wanted box and a Slave 1! My mates Rebel, my fiancee is scum and I fly the glorious Imperials and now own all the ships, 3 playmats, acrylic tokens and rulers.

Got two Force Awakens cores last night!

Its my addiction, I actually just love FFG games, latest game ive started is Netrunner!

I will start by admitting that I rarely play despite owning at least one of every ship.

I was told about the game by a friend in late 2012. In 2013, my dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer. In March of 2013, I had to work with the Red Cross to get my brother home from Afghanistan early to make sure he could be there before we lost our dad.

My brother was an avid gamer so I picked up a core set around the time he and his family arrived to my dad's house. I knew it was going to be a tough time and I wanted us to have some distractions. Needless to say, my bother, his sons, and I all enjoyed a game or two. X-Wing holds a place in my heart for giving me and my family some enjoyment during a dark time.

In December of last year, my brother and I stopped in Barnes and Noble before we'd see the movie of the week.. Bought an X-Wing and found out it was a miniatures game.. First tabletop/game store scene for both of us, and what a world we've found ourselves in!!

Couldn't be happier about how easily I was welcomed and how helpful this forum has always been.. The collection just grew over 100 total ships this week, can't wait for the next 100!

The real money is Blount + Ion Pulse Missiles.

There are very, very few ships that combo can't totally mess up if they get caught in arc at a bad time.

Alas, there are also very, very few lists that can't totally burn Blount away before he gets to fire. :(

A friend brought it on one of our "Nerd Camping" trips. We tried it and I fell in love. Everybody did. Heading out again this weekend and looking forward to playing.

Saw the Tabletop episode that others have mentioned and thought "Hey, that looks like fun!" and then promptly forgot about it.

Fast forward to earlier this year when one of my friends whips out a copy of the core set at our games night. Picked up my own core set the next day. :)

Yeah that would really hurt. Ouch!

I too blame Will Wheaton for my X-wing addiction.

Bought an A-wing, then the core set, then TIE Advanced, an X-wing I think, it gets blurry... so many ships.

So when my brother were younger we played a lot of tabletop games.. Predominately 40k and Space Hulk.. Then we grew older and moved away from our home city, un-fortunately to other sides of the country.

Since then my bro has moved closer so with a friend of ours started a regular games night, playing Space Hulk, we didn't want to get back into 40k as this was 15 years later and we have neither the time nor the cash to get into that kind of game again.

I picked up the X-Com board game from Amazon to try out as it looked and is very good value.. So then everytime after that Amazon kept pointing me at the FFG X-Wing Miniatures ships and core set.

So on the 25th June this year I ordered a Core-Set and an A-Wing... My brother and I were instantly hooked!...

As the saying goes.. Mistakes were made...

I now own a copy of every Rebel ship including the Huge ships, several Scum and Villainy ships and my brother owns most of the Imperial list plus some Scum and Villainy....

It's safe to say we are hooked.. One of the biggest selling points is that the miniatures come PRE PAINTED! I've a full time job, 2 kids and a wife and this game fits around all this perfectly.

I got interested when my friend found the core in clearnce at a Barnes and Noble for ten bucks in 2013 (he was so lucky to find it so cheap). He showed me and I got interested in the game too. I bought the core and some expansions later the next year. The game has been a lot of fun too me and my friend.

Really though, come to think of it, topics like this should be in the forums more often than the ones where people argue over small things.

I started back in November of 2012 when I was just getting in to the hobby side of board gaming. I was previously playing Wings of Glory because I liked to dog-fighting and the WW2 miniatures. Then X-wing comes along with a chance to fly X-wings and tie fighters, being a huge Starwars fan it was an easy switch.
