I'd like to see some more Objectives

By Cuthawolf, in Star Wars: Armada

I feel they add more to the game. Well, the ones that aren't Red anyway, I'm biased against those :P But with Dropzone Commanders space battle game coming up, I was sort of enamored of the way they're rumored to be doing objectives. Basically no one fights in deep space because there's nothing worth fighting over, it all occurs around planets or stations and such.

I'd like to see some objectives that are similar to those, where a ship might have to stay at short range to a designated planet section to provide orbital support, or escort troop landers, or some such. Don't get me wrong, I love Armada and am likely to keep loving it. But I would like to see both more objectives AND more restrictive objectives to discourage Total Party Kill games (totally my personal opinion there).

Objectives are not very "cinematic" at the moment. More troubling, they don't make enough of a difference, especially when playing more points.

Depends on the Objective.

At 300 points, getting 135 due to rear shots via squadrons is "enough" in anyone's book.

Holding out the outpost for 5 turns is 100pts. Which is a game-changer.

Objectives make a huge difference. It's all in the objectives you choose (or have available for your opponent to choose).

Are there any fan-made objectives out there?

. . . . I did not know Dropfleet was a thing till now. . .

There are some ones out there, but from what I have seen, none of them have matched the elegance of the official missions. The Official objectives to me, have that nice blend of simple but game changing.

I see far too much of one or the other in fan made things so far.

I'm sorry, didn't mean to kill more of your money :P

I was hoping that the new ship expansions would have new objectives in them.

It would be neat if they came out with a token pack for armada. I/e the movement tool and dice.... Included in the token pack could be the damage deck and objectives. With two new in each? Yes, this would force us to get doubles here and there. But we, many of us, buy multiples of things already.

Just an idea.

I think we need some more genuine scenarios, rather than just objective cards. We need transports to escort, factories and stations to destroy, scenarios that hinge on capturing or destroying specific enemy ships, etc.

I'm down for non-tournament objectives/play method. Especially ones that may capture the feel of the old X Wing/Tie Fighter missions (just on a bigger scale).

Would there be interest in adding an Objectives/Scenarios section to Armada Shipyards?

(Not in the short term, as I have my hands full with the ships at the moment, but eventually)

It would be cool if they had a set of 3 (one of each) objectives at a tournament and as a giveaway as part of siad tournament. It would make the tournament fluffy with a theme and these cards would be great collectables.

I'd love to see some more objectives. Official or otherwise.

Campaigns would be even better.

Halo Fleet Battles, Armada, Netrunner, now this. . . well at lest ffg does not own as much of my soul anymore. . . just these forums. . .

A few of the objectives just don't give enough.

And yes. More narrative would be fun. But maybe not for the tournament scene.

Absolutely, especially if they use shuttles or freighters.

Redel Evacuation/Imperial Invasion: troop ships and freighters on both sides going back and forth. 10-20 vp for each destroyed.

High Value Target: There is a high value target on one of player 1s ships if the ship takes 1/2 damage rounded up the HVT will launch in a shuttle and attempt to evade the enemy. 50 vp swing depending on survival/death.

Convoy Protection: self explanatory, but need to word it right.

Salvage Operation: Disabled ISD sits in the center of the play area player who boards the derelict ISD the most wins.

Asteroid Field Engagement: everyone crashes into asteroids, testing the "3725-1"odds.

Reinforcements en Route player one gets 350 pts to build a starting fleet. Player two gets 300 at start and 100 that deploys on or after turn 4.
