Why does the ghost have torpedoes?

By Wilhelm Screamer, in X-Wing

Season 2 spoilers?

Quite possible. Since it seems like FFG may have been mandated to add Rebels stuff, it's possible that someone talked to someone that actually worked on the show and they gave them the specs of the ship, including systems that haven't been shown on the show yet.

Is there any evidence at all that FFG was mandated to add anything? It seems simpler to assume that rather than Orders Arriving From Above, the scenario was more like "Hey, what can we draw from for the next wave? Rebels has some cool ships, right?"

A lot of the larger ships have torpedo weapons. The VT-49 decimator for example has a torpedo slot.

Now with torpedoes being in their current state of still a waste of points you can count on that slot only being filled with Extra Munitions to get a second bomb and nothing else.

As for the EPT they are often used to represent a signature trick that a pilot may have such as expert handling for doing barrel rolls that discard target locks. You can't do that many trick moves inside a C-5 galaxy when compared to a F-18.

Hera makes the ship dance like it's a god damned ballerina.

Which explains get pilot ability. Can make changes on the fly, likely with a lot of options considering it has a green 4 straight.

Yep. I recorded the secret meeting.

I'm not showing you though.

As previously stated....the Falcon has a missile slot that I don't ever recall seeing used.

Rewatch RotJ. It's what Lando dumped into the DS2 reactor.

Oh....I'll have to rewatch that.

Oh....I'll have to rewatch that.

You could just watch it now.

They just sound like lasers to me. But wookieepedia insist that they're concussion missiles.

For Extra Munitions? As it has a (2?) bomb slot(s).

Does it? Looks to me like System, Turret, Torp, Torp, Crew, Crew.

Think it's pretty funny it comes with Adv proton Torps. Can't figure out a reason I would pay 6 points for those on a ship that is already rolling 5 dice at range 1.

Also, I disagree that Torpedoes are useless. Even without all the many ways you can make them work, there is always at least Flechette Torpedoes that stress you out as long as you have 4 hull or less. Bro Bots have 4 hull and HATE to be stressed at the wrong moment.

The falcon used missiles in return of the jedi.

Minor interesting note: the novelization notes that the missiles are flat out better than torpedoes. The idea of the missiles being able to hit more easily but not hitting as hard was an invention of later works.

I hadn't realized that the Ghost comes with Predator. That means each faction now has the ability to get Predator without cross buying. That's kind of nice.

I remember a lot of people complaining about Advanced Sensors only coming with the Lambda, and then the E-Wing was released, giving Rebels the ability to not have to buy the best Imperial ship in the game.

And PTL comes with Imperial Aces and the A-Wing pack.

Engine Upgrade comes with the Falcon and the Hounds Tooth.

Are there any other really powerful multi ship upgrades that are limited to one release? I guess autothrusters. I wouldn't be surprised to find that in an Imperial Wave 9 ship.

The torpedo slot makes sense because Sabine loves everything that goes boom.

Though if Sabine is a crew that adds a bomb slot... the potential there is going to be nuts. Bombs on a HWK, bombs on B-Wings, bombs on the Outrider... bombs on everything!

Seriously, I can find absolutely no reference to the ship using them in any source material at all. This is the only real instance where there feels like a massive disconnect in what a ship does in game and what it does in lore (and no, tie fighter does not count).

It even comes packaged with advanced torpedoes, which have no utility for the ship when it already has a 4 dice primary. What is going on in this expansion?

This is super god **** weird to me and it is keeping me awake right now.

Second query, is it wrong for the ship to have an ept? Is that too much to ask for?

Edit: It comes with predator, so there is some way to equip that. FFG EXPLAIN THIS NONSENSE NOW

Someone that flies a 747 isn't in the same league as a Blue Angels pilot or some fighter ace.

Someone that drives a school bus isn't in the same league as a race car driver.

The person that pushes a button and engages autopilot on the Pancake isn't in the same league as Soontir Fel or an A-Wing Test Pilot.

This is why Lambdas and Y-Wings and K-Wings and Punishers and the Ghost and such don't have EPT's and shouldn't IMO. Well, Y-Wings should but all of the rest of them are dumb slow moving bricks. I don't care how good of a pontoon boat captain you are, you're not elite.

Just for game play reasons the Ghost shouldn't have one. Not every ship needs Push the Limit or Predator or whatever other dumb power upgrade to go with it's 3 power crew upgrades.

"**** the torpedoes."

The real question is why the punishing one has not one but two torp slots. Why FFG, why?

So why did the YV-666 (the freight truck of the sky) get EPT? I see it differently, as EPT is based on the pilot, not the ship they are piloting.

Because Rebels (is a show for kids that) vastly inflates the abilities of characters shown in it?

Though I really do want to rip PGS a new one for implying that commercial pilots are just autopilot-pushers.

I find it interesting that all of this "why does the Ghost come with this, when it clearly doesn't have that" discussion seems to largely ignore the fact there are TWO ships in that expansion pack, and you can only see the upgrade bar for ONE of them.

A torpedo slot but no bomb slot, despite the set comes with 3 different bombs... I think one of the pilots or crew adds a bomb slot or two, and suddenly you have room for extra ammonitions. Probably Sabine as her head is next to the therminal detonator tokens.

The auxilary arc looks like it has a torpedo symbol on it. That leads me to believe it, by default, fires torpedoes out the aux arc. (The Ghost title allows you to shoot the primary from that arc.)

Also looks like it has two torp slots, which means EM torpedoes worth firing.

But the pilots and crew of the ghost are demonstrably not just autopiloting it. And the Falcon is an exceptionally manuverable ship. Able to navigate hostile environments even the agile ties failed to do. She is "the fastest ship in the fleet" afterall.

The y-wing not having one was an oversight. With the very lame R2-D6 serving as an apology.

so hera does some weird SoT type thing, right? If so, conners + munis = fun fun times
